You can use royalty free photos and there is no height restriction to the masthead, just keep the width to 600 pixels.
The uniqueness of the contest is combining the concepts of mortgage lending and a green lifestyle. The auto industry can be an example. Car makers have hybrid cars which is combining what they do (manufacture cars) and shows they support the environoment. They maintain their brand name like Ford, Toyota, etc. and then use a logo or symbol to represent being "green".
You can design a masthead that demonstrates mortgage lending (home financing) but also has a logo/symbol or insignia showing it's "green" friendly.
