I dont think using shapes should ever be an issue. After all, we are not the creators of a square a circle, etc. It is what is inside that shape that wins a contest. But you have to have respect for another persons efforts when entering a contest and keep your logo as original as possible.
I think everyone here has had their ideas taken.But..Until it happens to you, you will never take another persons entry into consideration. Mistakes happen and unless you are a repeat offender when it comes to taking ideas in these contests, a break is deserved. People do not see things the same way, thats what makes the contests interesting. But sometimes, you also need to be told if it seems it is done on purpose. It goes both ways.

Ulahts is a single warrior and logoholic, I admire his work and tallant, simply hope he has a week off on a hollyday, so I can win and buy a new PC...we are neigbours, I hope he doesn't get me wrong :))))

designing or any other art is not about competing with other...its a persons fight with his own skills and creativity...a good artist always hates his own creation after creating it and thats what makes him create something better next time....thats may be the reason why the Great Leonardo left most of his work incomplete.

Its awkward to see how some "designers" feel unconfortable when similar concepts are in debate and at the same time, in other competitions, they easily go and use someone else's idea just because the CH said "hey I liked what Mr. John Doe did, can you try something like that?".. Having said that, where's the moral in doing this?
We are designers, not mercenaries. Design is a very disciplined science, not some "I've got a bunch of funny objects that will make the client's eye cry for more.."
Honestly, I'm sick of this "this is my idea fights", that's why I carefully choose my contests.
For those who understand the true meaning of creating something ORIGINAL, I wish you good luck and I call you designers.
