Design brief

Brief Overview

My client, a surgeon specializing in vascular surgery, is looking for a fresh approach to the way he presents his practice to potential and existing patients.

The name of the practice is Chest and Vascular Surgery, P.C. (www.chestandvascularsurgerypc.com); and as part of that practice, he also operates the Iowa Vein Clinic (www.iowaveinclinic.com). Our recommendation is that he position the vein clinic as a sub-brand to the surgical practice, so that is why we're only asking for a logo and identity package for the practice.

As for the values of the doctor and the practice; the man loves classical art and architecture and has a great deal of respect for natural beauty, especially the ocean. His interest in the environment and natural beauty seems to come through his practice and bedside manner. He's very patient and his staff takes the time and care to make sure patients are well informed and prepared for surgery.

From an artistic standpoint, this doctor seems to prefer simple, clean and elegant graphic solutions.

This doctor prizes his stellar reputation in the market and wants to continue being held as a leading surgeon in the community.

Target Audience

Primary target: middle-aged and older women and men.
Secondary target: other healthcare professionals (possibly referring physicians and healthcare administrators)

In general, the perceptions of both audiences is generally the same - doctors are known by their reputations first. Marketing impressions seldom make a significant difference to either group. But a lack of organization and continuity in communication can reinforce a negative impression if something goes wrong.

A clean, sophisticated and appropriate identity helps reassure the patient, his/her family and other healthcare professionals that this doctor has his act together.

Requirements

Please be sure to use the name: "Chest and Vascular Surgery P.C." in the logo. The name can also be presented as "Chest & Vascular Surgery P.C." if you prefer.

There is no set color palette at this time.

During the submission/evaluation process, please submit logos in both black and white and color. (I am green/red color blind which makes it difficult for me to fairly evaluate entries submitted only in color.)

I will provide feedback several times during the contest and will select five finalists two days before the end of the contest. I will provide more specific feedback to those finalists and will then present their revised designs to the client for a final selection.

Here is what is expected from the winning designer at the end of this project:

1.) Adobe Illustrator (CS3) files of the winning logo in both black and white and color

2.) Color call-outs of the logo in standard CMYK format

3.) A suggested color palette for future collateral, web site, etc. Please use web-friendly colors and specify those colors in both hex and CMYK

4.) JPG files of proposed identity elements (letterhead, business card, envelope, etc.) with call-outs for color and typefaces. Please make sure recommended fonts have both Mac and PC equivalents.
