LOL wow, is what I've got to say.
djb (congrats, btw), the issue that people are having with this is that it's not quite an -identity-, sofar as it is a design. Yes, that's a great design that's going to look like an excellent clubbing-type promo-on-black-glossy, but it's not going to be simple enough to say, embroider on a shirt or something (which is what logos need to be--versatile), and if they're going to want your design to do so, you're going to have to work extra hard to simplify it, because it'd be incredibly difficult to go from what you have there to an embroidering machine (and I work with an embroidering/patch creator). Same goes for simple photocopying...it's a no-go on that respect. Same goes for signage; if they want this "logo" on the side of a building or whatnot, while the text is fine, the design will have to be simplified.
I sure hope that this type of issue doesn't happen again, but it's going to be hard to avoid when clients don't know what it is they're asking for.
what do you mean got something else? My design is EPS vector format. Just like the contest stated.
Not the first time someone asked for a vector design, and got something else
surpriseing final decision......and just wonder if there is also going to be a runner up prize...or you forgot about that? By the way...congratulations djb28.... and sworks....It must have been difficult for you!!!.
Congratulations djb28.
Congrats djb28!
Ditto, Helix. :) Wasn't there supposed to be a second prize as well?
E Rochester: Those effects are all achievable in Illustrator. You can do complex things in Illustrator that look like PS gradient effects. I doubt that is the case with this particular "logo", but I'm just saying...
As for the winning logo... Just when I think SitePoint can't possibly surprise me anymore... :)
Wow.
I commend the winner for having a cool looking unique design. But, I was just wondering if in the future if the people running the contests would not specify eps, vector images & then choose an image totally created in a photo realistic program with effects that are not considered as vector art. It is a bit misleading to the other contestants.
You stated that you would like the logo created as an eps file & vector art....I have been using illustrator to create my designs to keep it simple & easy to reproduce. Are you ok with designs created using a photoshop program, which would be a little more complex looking?
Well, changing directions has been a bit of a drag but I still think this is an interesting contest. Although it's going in the direction of swirls and holes and tornado's right now, I still hope the client will change his mind once more and end with a simple brandable rabbit. I've seen some very nice ones up here...
Through no fault of the CH (as he seemed to be relaying the helter skelter feedback of the client), this is one contest that was not designer-friendly; constantly changing the direction and giving scant/sparse/non-specific feedback isn't cool (particularly if the client's saying "Please read the brief!" and the brief is always changing). I'm out but will keep my sub up and watch to see if someone finally appeases the client. Good luck guys, and I hope the CH & client don't further disappoint you.
Runner up prizes suck...add the money to the first prize, reward the one selected....a runnerup prize feels like after spending hours doing spec work, the runner up prize is money taken away from the winner.

Aargh -- As most of you hopefully have seen, the client has changed direction once more - hopefully for the last time. To make up for it, they've also added a $ 100 runner-up prize. Please continue to enter this contest with your ideas... Good luck.
Chris
What?
Nice reading here, patting yourself on the back seems pre-mature though.
