"I like the black and white ones better" tells me nothing about how you want me to go about revising my color design for you, unless you already have another favrite and just want me to cease working on it. And if that's the case? Please include that in the feedback, because just making comments like that does not help -any- of us.

The internets is a 24 hour library. ;) It takes good character to own up to their mishaps and mistakes, so right on. :)

No No I think you have the wrong end of the stick, firstly that wasnt aimed at you and secondly i dont think we have a difference of opinion, I agree with everything that you just said. Your drawing is an interpretation of the picture in the original link, fair enough you have made it your own. I havent thieved anything as you put it Im dipping my toes in the water! Now in logo design from my point of view if you take the photo you can trace around it. If you take an image and make it your own fair do's. I do agree that the first entry put up looks exactly like the one in the link but i just dont see the point.

P.S., ded: If you "wanted to get a feel of how to design ozomahtli", then perhaps you should've sat down with a pencil and paper and sat in front of the computer (or gone to the library) to do your research on Aztec art the designer's way. ;)

It's not about stabbing backs, it's about keeping the site rules in tact and thus keeping all clients (and you, and the site) free of potential legal woes. As I said, inspiration is one thing (a contest like this with style considerations -calls- for inspiration), but thieving is another (and that means tracing, too). If you want to draw from a 1,000-year-old design, U.S. law says go for it, but you have to make it your own. But if you draw from modern art that's still copyrighted by -someone somewhere- (see my example above), then you're crossing the line. Particularly in logo designs we're not supposed to be using clip art OR tracing photos (or stealing them, whatever). I've been finding that a lot of the Euros and non-Americans on this site seem to find it "okay" to lift ideas and call it inspiration (this is the same truth as I've found perusing the many, many logo compliations that I own; European/foreign published logo books from Taschen and Die Gestalten Verlag include logos that are BLATANT ripoffs of existing logos or logos using very live celebrities & entertainment figures in them, so there has to be some sort of bizarre difference of opinion regarding intellectual property and right to publicity), but it's really not okay.

now this is a good example of using an image taken from google while style shopping and changing it so it looks like your own. Elledesign, I love the logo, keep it up. Dont let mainero get to you aswell!
