i couldn't agree less. the winners design completely ignores the brief and that kind of work would not be acceptable at any agency in the world. that doesn't deserve a congrats at all - i think most of us are saying that the contest holder is at fault here anyway.

maybe for the dtp-operators-out-of-their-partents-garage type "designers" who have never seen a professional logo presentation this is acceptable. it isn't.

this site is good in theory but both of the contests i have entered have gone this way. it really isn't bitterness in any way, its just huge disappointment that the client is not getting good work for their money.

Jmar, I think what a lot of people have a problem with (including me) is that the contest holder goes indepth regarding the image aspect of the logo. Here is a portion from the brief... "images that evoke the business include social networks and nets, 3D landscapes using grids (evoking wealth inequality in 3D), chords that bind."

Now, most of us thought about and worked hours on an image to go along with the type.
However, the contest holder chose just type as a logo. If that was what they wanted, it should have been in the brief as to not waste anyone's time.
That's how I see it and congrats to the winner.

Exactly jmar. Totally agreed here. It is not always what is best. It is what the contest holder likes best and what he/she believes will fit his/her site best.

After seeing 2 contests this week that end in the winner getting bashed, I feel I need to say something (feel free to ignore me)...

I'm fairly new to this site, and what has disappointed me more than the bad taste of some contest holders, is the negative attitude of so many designers on here. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I find it rude to take away from someone else's success by publicly criticizing their design. Is it really necessary to publicly post anything to the winner besides a friendly "congratulations" if you see fit?

I know it's frustrating to lose a contest to a design that you feel is weaker than yours (I've been there many times). But we all know life isn't fair, and with graphic design, it all comes down to the client's or contest holder's personal taste -- whether that's good taste or bad. Cutting down someone else's work isn't going to change that.

Is that Arial type font? WoW! I wouldn`t imagine it is that expencive...
$500 for the winner and over a $100 to open a contest? (I think it was something like that...)

should have just given it to him or something instead of wasting the time of the artists here.

I'm in awe... what a waste of $500 - there is no concept behind this logo, nothing memorable in any way - it could be a logo for a dentist or a painter and it would "work" just as well... There were probably 5 or 6 amazing entries - well thought out designs that had some meaning...

I'm new to this site, but if this is the quality of work contest holders are going to be choosing I think I may resign myself to losing time and again. The client isn't always right - it is our jobs as professionals who have studied (hopefully) design to educate them about what branding really is. In this instance we have definitely not achieved that.

if you go to read feedbacks on winner's profile , you can understand the holder did chose him as winner for more than 2 days already ! Maybe even more ... and he probably received many private messages from the holder to get so closed of what she was looking for . He send an ordinary and extremely simple design .... but seems he was pretty sure to win and didn't try to find other ideas

did you even need a contest to get that kind of design. a simple word processor would've done the job. I mean... it's just the text!!!!
anyway. congrats to the winner. :)
