Hi All,
As per my comments late last week, I have added a new competition here on 99 Designs for the Jokes.com.au logo.
The new competition can be found here...
http://99designs.com/contests/21576
I invite all designers that participated in this competition to enter the new one... be it to modify your earlier entries to suit the new brief... or to start anew.
All the best,
DJ.
Now that is really is a joke.
@BDC well spoken, and I wish you luck if you truly mean what you have written.
I'm sorry if my 'design' win bothers everyone. Although I consider myself an average designer and never tried this before I gave it a go. I'm surprised as well that it was chosen but I can see where the CH is coming from. Yes I did take the image from the net with the thought it could be seen as an idea rather than a finished piece of work. I was never trying to submit a finished design. I wanted to see where it could go.
I have requested to the CH to not pay me for this as I am more interested in continuing to get better at design and allow truly gifted designers the chance to submit a more polished effort.
I really was amazed at the submissions for this competition. Some very good work and I wish all good luck for future competitions.
It amazes me to see the number of truly skilled artist/designers in these contests that have to have their hard work diminished to clipart & stock photo winners.I guess originality & creativity have to take a back seat sometimes.
Hi All,
Clearly I have upset some of you with my awarding of the prize to #104.
As I said in my most recent comments on this, the design needs work but I am happy that it can be made into something iconic... something that will work on T-shirts, Mugs and other merchandising (part of the Jokes.com.au business plan calls for a focus on monetization 'away' from advertising).
I freely admit that the winning design isn't as pretty as some of the others... nor is it as professionally finished.
Bottom line though... is that it was for our purposes... the most creative idea.
In line with this, 'and' the fact that I clearly can not use as our logo someone elses photo (I have worked with designers for 20 years so was 'well aware' of the issues surrounding ownership when awarding the 1st prize) I 'will' be putting up another competition next week with a similar prize to take the 'chattering teeth' idea and create an original logo from it.
I would welcome all designers whom submitted to this competition to enter new designs once the new comp is posted... or re-tool some of those already submitted to suite the new brief.
Once again I apologize if I have upset any of you. As I said, I was after a fresh and unique idea... and believe we have that now... that is an 'idea'.
Expect a new competition Monday May 4th, AEST.
All the best...
DJ.
I guess it's a lesson to be learnt in running multiple contests at once - seems like the other contest CH was holding derailed this one...It's a shame and a disappointment when sincere designers put in their effort to reflect a CH's needs only to be snubbed by flukish winning designs.
If #104 was to be 'extended' on, a simple solution could have been to extend the contest and give us all updates on what is going on - then you would have paid a better quality winner.
Adios!
Oh and congrats to the winner who has won his first contest aaaaaand with his first try here in 99designs !!!!!!!! ............. what a surprise! And with this design!!!!! Did you see his other entries for this contest? A 38year old designer with (i guess) experience and these entries........Something is going totally wrong!
And obviously thos logo has nothing to do with the logos CH claimed that he liked a week ago... And of course he has not given any feedabck...
wow. just wow.
CH got gypped on this contest
It's against 99designs TOS to use images taken from the internet. Should not be rewarded for doing so.

Thanks to all submissions.
It's been hard to pick a winner as all have been very well done. We are going with #104 as while it still needs work (and we will likely re-list this competition around enhancing the winning design further) the use of the chattering teeth will work well across various medium, print, video etc.
Thanks again to everyone. Good work.
I'm not entirely sure some of the designs are keeping to the brief. I don't see a web 2.0 WOW organic feel happening. I've been looking at logopond.com for inspiration.
I like http://www.jokes.com 's logo. This is what I fell organic is. Combine this with a layout like - http://www.cracked.com and we on our way... just a thought.
Our likes so far...
#1, #7, #17 - By limejuice.
1 and 7 have a more apple/iphone shine about them, yet have been done. At least #17 he's getting some of the idea. Yet I feel I've seen this design before.
#21, #22 - by Pixel.
Clever use of a smile! With or without eyebrows?...I prefer without eyebrows.
The rest are too clean, too many colours, too safe and possibly too predictable.
How would these logos look on black? Or dark blue? Gradients? I would say they should try not putting the "hook" within the text but next to it... either to the side or above etc... See link image below for references.
