its when you try to reproduce a logo with a gradient
in some small silkscreen applications ( like a promo pen )
or say embroidery on a shirt....
that's when it's tough to use gradient logos - not impossible , just a bit harder and maybe more expensive..

it depends how people will use the logo.. which unfortunately on this site.. we're often guessing at, cause the design briefs are not as complete as if one met face to face with the client.

if you scale it to the right dimensions that you will need AT ITS FINAL SIZE.. IN PHOTOSHOP
(smart object or not)... there's no problem...

I think the biggest issues is when a large jpeg is inserted into Word, Powerpoint, or into web programming software
    - and THEN they grab the corner and scale it down.. THAT's when you REALLY get a bad blur / pixelation /distortion.

so that is usually an oversight of the person putting together that document...
Not a limitations of the logo itself...

heck, UPS has a gradients, at&t has gradients, so does Xbox, the new Xerox logo to mention a few...
    and they manage.. : )

They become blurry because they are not properly resized. If you force a raster image and downsize it without using the best resample method and other filters it's mostly sure it will look blurry. Let Photoshop do that ...he's the best in this matter :)

I do like the logos with a 3D effect #2 and #3, however we regulary use small versions of our logo which is difficult with these logos as they become very blurry when small.

Thank you Sean for the comment, I'm new to this site so I will have to get into it :-) As described in the contest we are looking for a new 'fresh' logo for Hsyndicate. It does not have to be similar to the current logo. I realy like design #27 #17 #15 and #9. #27 and #17 have very nice fonts/letters, something I prefer over a 'regular' font.
The new logo will be part of our new website, therefor we are also for a logo that looks good in a web template (colors, fonts, etc.)

you'll probably get more designs if you leave feedback.. this is how the site works.. rather than just leave stars with no direction.
