Once again, take a look at some of those logos in the link there. I'm not looking at any more bug or G icons, and I'm not looking to see the word "glipps" in different fonts that I can download myself. Let's try some variety and open up the creativity.
feedback sir?
aahh..
It's not; it's two people communicating...
#57 -- kinda looks like a "q" there.
I did not post that ^ Some fool is using my profile name and avatar and posting inapropriate comments in my contests...
It's no different than a logo for print, but it needs to look good at small scale (favicons, etc.). And what defines a web 2.0 logo is any logo that is used by a web 2.0 site. :)
The reason they're defined as web 2.0 logos is just because there seems to be a trend in the way they look. Take anything else and you'll see a trend--soda pop cans have different designs and logos than websites, but the cans all have logos that work well on the can/bottle. They follow each other, because they compete. If you don't have something at least on the level of your competition, the idea is that you'll have a harder time playing that game.
This may be a stupid question, but I've been seeing this "web 2.0 logo" term everywhere, and I wonder if anyone can tell me what makes a "web 2.0" logo any different from something you would use for print? My background is in print designing and publishing, and honestly, if a logo is good for the web, it ought to be good for print as well, since eventually, someone's going to want to print it. I've even had clients ask for a "more web 2.0" look, but haven't been able to describe it. So can anyone out there define the term?
I find it helpful to check out a bunch of other logos and see what catches your eye. Check out these other web 2.0 logos and you can tell which ones are good brands and which ones maybe are not as strong:

#23 / #25 do we have a little copycat? :)
Also, just wanted to point out that it doesn't necessarily have to be a dragonfly. The more variety in icons, the better we'll be able to find the direction we want to go!
#16 reminds me of a game in WiiPlay! :)
As you can see so far, #s 3 and 8 have very clean text and a clean icon, which is what we're looking for. We need both to be recognizable as separate entities, as well as when put together.
