Design brief

Organization name

EPIC Power & Conditioning (CrossFit EPC)

Description of business

We are a husband/wife team operating a warehouse strength and conditioning gym functioning as a CrossFit affiliate. CrossFit is a fitness program that utilizes functional movements done at a high intensity. We also like lift heavy, using Olympic lifting (snatch, clean & jerk) and traditional power lifts (deadlift, squat, press, etc.). Our target audience is men and women from ages 18 to 118.

Further requirements

We like the name "Epic" because it suggests the storytelling method of the "Hero's Journey" or "Monomyth" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth). We want to evoke feelings of adventure and for our clients to "heed the call" of becoming a better, fitter version of themselves. We want them to accept the challenge of the sweat and tears that come with our intense training. We want them to be able to wear our logo with pride, and to have it mean something to others when they see it.

We like the idea of using a dragon image in the logo similar to the anthropomorphic dragon that has the fit human body ("Dragon Wing" in the examples), perhaps more fleshed out or a silihouette, and less skeletal. We also like a sword-in-the-stone image (with the stone being an "atlas stone" - a type of apparatus used in strong-man training). We're not sold on either, but we think those are the types of images that evoke the "hero's journey" idea.

NOTE: It's also important to use that we are able to adapt our logo to be used in our CrossFit name "CrossFit EPC". So in my mind, most of the focus would be on the word "epic" with "power & conditioning" being used as almost a tagline or motto. Once we've chosen a winner for this contest, we will be very much interested in continuing to work with the chosen artist to develop logos for our "CrossFit EPC" brand.

Our overall style is to keep things on the simpler side. Something that's easily transferable to t-shirts, and wouldn't be too complex for us to paint on our walls. We like pencil sketches, or just overall simple designs. However, we are not 100% sold on anything. We're coming to you because we are not designers, we need the help/expertise, so show us what you've got in mind! Don't be afraid to throw in completely new ideas/colors/images at us, we are open to anything!!
