Now for my two-bits, I'll repeat what has already been said, I did not intentionally design something similar to omnitv! Nor was I "inspired",Emi, by their mark. I watch almost no television and as far as I know, have never been exposed to their mark. It happened in a vacuum and I have my worksheets to demonstrate the developement of my mark. Accidents happen and I'm sure I'm not the only one to whom they do. Indeed, since 1975, the year I began my graphic design career, this is the first time it's happened to me. The only question which remains is one that gets asked of any mark by any designer at any time - is it overly similar to another mark in the same marketspace? That's another issue and one which is being addressed. So please guys, keep it civil: we're here to solve problems, not to make accusations...

There have been several public and private messages regarding the winning logo being hauntingly similar to another logo already in use by another entity. In conversation with the winning designer (and his providing his concept development sheets) I am comfortable that this is an unfortunate development. As such we will NOT be using the design submitted. We are working with the designer to rectify the situation.

I appreciate those of you who have taken the time to contact me to keep our organization out of legal "hot water" with Omni1 and especially those who have done it without a "sore loser" flavour.

    Emi,
You would be well advised not to go there - nore the "children with computers" route, which came out of the other side of your face...

Many thanks to all of you who submitted logo designs to the Energy Futures Network contest. You represent a broad, global talent base and, although it proved more time consuming than I had expected, it was a pleasure (and a challenge) to review your work and select a new logo for our organization.

@James - "ripped off design" presupposes intent and I assure you I was unaware of the omnitv mark (though perhaps not surprised since radial symetry is a thing of beauty and is likely to be persued by designers everywhere). Looking closely, I do note some differences though: my design is a five-part radial whereas the omni mark is a six-part; mine has a subtle undulation around the circumference at precise 72degree intervals suggesting movement and something dynamic going on; my mark utilizes gradients to achieve a greater dynamic and fluidity whereas the omni mark is flat and more static; my mark has a pronounced highlight on the upper right grey portion which is intended to suggest technology/industry. The omni mark has no such thing; the colours used are different; and so on... Having said all that, even though my design would surely hold up to a copyright challenge, I won't be upset if the contest holder decided not to choose my design. Now James, while I'm sure your intentions are honourable and for the good of the Sitepoint community, discretion really is the better part of valour friend...

design practices spread like wildfire, "he does it so I'll do it", and then pretty soon you are all upset with each other and pointing fingers... nothing like watching 2 knuckleheads arguing over who owns a ripped off design

Thanks to all of you who have taken time to provide entries. The variety of concepts is amazing. I've taken time this afternoon to complete feedback and won't be looking again until at least Dec 26. For those of you who entered early, you might want to re-visit our website -- I've got rid of the "wind turbine only" photo and created a bit of a montage. Don't know if this will spur any new ideas. Also, note the tag-line at the bottom of the web page as it is a quick summary of what we're all about. For those of you celebrating Christmas, have a great holiday.
