@UserCustomDesignsByMarie - Having been one of the people who reviewed over 1800 designs yesterday, it's not something which happens instantly. There have been around another 1000 designs submitted since then and they will take some time to go through. Please be patient.
@CH, question on comment:
"We are using the star ratings simply as a guide to try and highlight some of the lower and higher quality designs being submitted. There will be no written feedback given on specific designs at the moment. We are eliminating offensive, totally off brief and the original gap logo's which are being submitted."
Ok, so what about the designs that have no star rating at all? Where do they stand since no feedback being left? Just curious.
There have been a lot of complaints from the community about the way the contest is being rated. I want to address these here.
We have multiple staff members involved in rating the designs due to the very large volume. This means that STAR ratings are being chosen by 4-5 staff members. This includes several of our in house designers. This is a community project people, so ultimately the people will decide the winner. We are using the star ratings simply as a guide to try and highlight some of the lower and higher quality designs being submitted. There will be no written feedback given on specific designs at the moment. We are eliminating offensive, totally off brief and the original gap logo's which are being submitted.
Please respect the designer code of conduct that you signed, and let's have fun with this! :)
Also wondering, what happens if Gap decides to use the winning logo? All the designer gets is $500 and featured in a newsletter? If so, I'd die everytime I saw MY logo being used on all of gaps merchadising, knowing it's worth thousands and all I got was $500 and some free publicity. Thoughts?
I've been reading articles that Gap intentionally made a bad logo so that they could A. get publicity and B. secretly set up this contest to get a logo for $500 (not much AT ALL considering Gap is a multi billion dollar company and it's branding is vital). Maybe someone already inquired about this, so much discussion here I'm not able to through it all. Any thoughts of this guys?
Sorry Matt, I thought this was by gap, not 99designs, my mistake.
" "...the whole crowd sourcing idea is under attack by the professional design industry..."
The professional design industry needs to understand & accept that design itself is becoming commoditized, and a major shift is taking place in the market. There are valuable arguments on both sides (formally educated professionals demanding a well deserved high fee, AND freelancers willing to spec for less). It is understandable that the "design community" hates the 99 formula, because it threatens their job. There may be lots of hacks here, but there is also much talent. Also, a hack gets better with practice :). Crowd sourcing isn't going anywhere. Believe that.
Keep it up everybody!
OMG so many entery offffffffff
Remember - only submit your best 2 or 3 ideas, not anymore than that.
If you've gotten a 1-star rating or you've been eliminated it means you're off-brief.
Every logo submitted should be:
1. Legible, easy to decipher the letters and the name of the company. Several variations submitted look like "GIP" or "GOP" or are simply very hard to read. Don't use flipped, mirrored or upside down letters.
2. Effective without color, looks good in black & white. If your logo requires color to work, it doesn't meet our requirements.
3. Scalable. Works at 1 inch and 100 feet.
4. Versatile & multi-purpose. Has to reproduce well on business cards, pens, letterhead, mugs, tradeshow booths, etc.
5. Simple & memorable. Don't get too complicated.
If you got 1-star, here's some further recommended reading, resources & design inspiration:
