Similarities would exist coz most designs are played with "AM". Try searching for "AM" images online and you might find alot of designs that have "AM" similar(which is due to the abbreviation). You can see alot of similar designs even within this contest. The one you mentioned was a winning entry by me, and THIS one is styled in the same 3d way, but is not the same.
And there is something called recycling ideas. Which many well known designers do here at 99 and recycle the unused artwork.

We aren't very familiar with the policies and
proper etiquette so I don't know involved we
should be with the arguments/discussions
between the designers. Either way we are
getting quite a few private emails about
other designers and their motivations,
ethics, etc.
So for everybody to see and know - we do
NOT know any of the designers and have
NO idea where their inspirations come
from.
I'll stay away from entering arguments,
I will say that #83 is really a great piece
of work. We love it.

I have doing the 1-star rating because I
feel bad. Thus a lot of ratings.

BTW PrincesChelsea my first entry in this contest was #28 and NOT #84. 84# is just a reverse(without outlines)of the previous concept. I think it would be better if you compare #28 and #83.
