You could have, at least, posted a comment that you were going to be taking more time. Leaving the designers in a lurch like this raises the ire of the designers because spec work, like this, is neither desirable nor profitable if you do not get the money.

Have more respect for the designers before you go spouting off about your vacation to wherever then they may have more patience with you.

Sorry, guys, I was on vacation and trying to coordinate with the winning designer at the same time and didn't want to contact you until all the loose ends had been handled. Thanks to all of you for your input, but in the future, I would ask that some patience would be a virtue and it takes time to coordinate and close everything. You all had such great ideas and it was a difficult decision.

Thank you for offering your creative ideas to us!

Being courteous has nothing to do with having a design-degree or design-PHD OR being a CH. Ethics apply to all walks! Giving the first timer a benefit of doubt is courtesy on designers behalf. And giving a feedback or leaving a reasonable line for "not interested" would have been a courtesy on CH's behalf. Which unfortunately didnt happen in this case! I'm sure the CH did find some time to log in and read all these argument between the designers here and should have realized that his action was a cause of this conversation, Now he has an ethical resposibility to shed some light on the reasons of his action.

    Just my thoughts folks!
    Best of luck!

I'm not sure if I'm following the thread properly, but it seems that some people think that ALL of the designs have been eliminated. If you sort for "Entries still in consideration", you'll see there are still some designs in the running.

'nifantom' i totally agree with you on that part.

The CH SHOULD have left a note after the contest ended!!!

I feel ASSERTIVE communication from the designers invloved is the best way to get things moving and making it effective.

WE often forget that while being abusive we lose out our effectiveness on the 'point' that we want to make and automatically invite a natural 'IGNORE' from the CH's.

As you can see approx. about 400+ designs hve been submitted their designs to this contest & even if we average about 10 designs per designer we would be 40+ designers

Instead of the abuses imagine even if 10 of us just left a professional comment asking "for more feedback/comments in the direction the contest has been progressing so far"

i am sure that would compell the CH's to take note and act!!!

I WOULD PREFER TO BE EFFECTIVE THAN TO BE ETERNALLY IGNORED!!!

Any ways it was nice talking and sharing a thought or two...with you 'nifantom'

And hope there were definite learnings for us and others as well, in the conversation we've had.

i am sure we'll be bumping into each other AND SHAKING HANDE, as we now are both part of this community!!! :) :)

    Cheers!!!

Quad-A, for some reason you don't seem to understand that designers are PEOPLE. I'm sure everyone here wouldn't feel so harsh towards the CH if they have simply given us a reason to their decisions.

We're not mad that the CH eliminated every entry, we're mad because we haven't heard a word from the CH since the end of the contest. Even if they choose not to pick a design because they all suck, at least have the curteousy and respect enough to let us know.

Designers can only go so far, the CH needs to meet us halfway.

    Rude!!!

Sorry to say, But in a creative field there is no room for that word & at the same time you can't force something down somebody's throat. definitely not on a designers word, cos often he feels that his design is the best!!!

AND A CLIENT IS CERTAINLY NOT GOING TO BUY THAT LINE !!!!!!!

In this field things could certainly go the....

    "nothing impressive enough",
"good designs but just couldn't find the 'One design that had it all"
    "..."
    .
    .
    .......way!!!

If you have been a designer for long you should have understood this by now, & If you are a budding designer then you have a lesson or two to learn.

My comments were not to brush anybody's egos!!! spur a debate
and most importantly i don't have time to waste over comments that lack experience and understanding.

All the best for one & all!!!

    Over & OUT!!!

I'm sorry to say but... if we were planning to give that ''Customer Service'' probably we wouldnt bother in getting a degree in graphic design, in fact we could totally work at some telemarketing call centre, or at some supermarket. We are designers not clerks, our job is to be creative and show the clients that what they need is not exactly ''what they want''.

It is not our buisness to consider and understand the facts that you mention.
Our responsibility is to design with Ethics believing in the Quality of the design, not in the quantity of the proposals.

There are rules that we have to follow, and so we did. Read the brief, looked at the samples that the client thought would be the style they wanted, designed our proposals, submited them, and waited for a winner that hasn't been selected.

So far we did our part, quite on time, and i find it totally rude that he/she hasn't got paid for his work.

So 'quad-a' don't come over with your ''World Peace Attitude'' whilst you should be on the side of all the designers that have competed here.

Who knows, maybe the CH PM'd one of the designers to do the design "off-line"
    totally against the rules.

Of course it would have been nice if some kind of notification was issued (again...for all individual designs(designers), it may not be feasible, as there is no limit to the number of designers & designs which may be submitted to a contest).

In such cases i agree atleast a general notification on the contest bulletin would just about make things a little clearer.

But then again, most of the CH's are first timers, AREN'T THEY??? i mean common guys, how many times would one business want to visit this place for their design works(unless an agency).

These and many more facts happen to be some of the ground realities of such a medium(platform), which If taken and considered by US (designers) would make OUR lives a bit more easier(there are so many vintage designers here who just dish out fantactic designs one after the other without creating any fuss at all). And also WE are the only ones frequenting this place again & again, AREN'T WE???

DON'T YOU ALL THINK IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND THE FACTS THAT SURROUND THIS MEDIUM and CONSIDER THEM???

THE BOTTOM LINE, which goes without saying is, that we need to give the one timers(CH's) the 'benifit of consideration' from US who literally live and own this place, WE NEED TO MAKE THEM FEEL AT EASE(definitely not those who are evidently arrogant)

Common Guys, This is a Designers place, "OUR PLACE" visited by prospective clients(CH's).

    It is our Shop GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we need to do everything to please the customers.

Haven't you heard we live in the world of 'Customer Service'.

'ninfantom' these and many more practical realities you'll learn over time while you stay at 99designs.com. All the Best!!!

Cheers to this Fantastic Community called '99designs.com'

While I do agree with you Quad-a, Contest Holders need to realize that us designers need consideration as well. We're not robots that just churn out designs without any feeling for our work. Yes, the CH does have a tough decision to make, but the design process is mutual. If the designer or CH neglects the other, then the process fails.

All I am saying is, if the CH made the decision to eliminate all the designs, some kind of notification or reasoning behind that decision would be nice. How else can we expect to know what is going on?

For those who put a tremendous amount of effort to please the client and feel fulfilled, the reactions to what the CH did are completely justifiable.

Yes guys the 99designs system has changed for all contestS that have ended. the abuse is uncalled for. In the new system, All the entries get sorted out automatically in the order...highest rated designs first(EVEN IF THEY WERE ELIMINATED). And the winning design takes the first place AS SOON AS its decided.

    ...

AND GUYS FOR US 'designers' IT MAY BE ABOUT WINNING THE CONTESTS AND MAKING MONEY. AND FORGETTING ABOUT IT AFTER THAT & MAY BE FOR FOREVER.

BUT FOR A 'CH'(CLIENT) ITS WAKING UP DAY ON DAY...EVERYDAY...TO LITERALLY LIVE WITH THE 'identity'...we may have created for him....................................FOREVER!!!

SO ISN'T IT JUST FAIR TO LET THE CH/CLIENTS DECIDE WITH UN-QUESTIONABLE LIBERTY ON THE DESIGNS THAT THEY WANT TO LIVE AND SEE...FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

FOR ONE THING I AM SURE YOU ALL WOULD AGREE THAT IT IS NOT A JOKE TO CHANGE AN IDENTITY OF THE FIRM JUST BECAUSE OF SOME HASTY DECISION.

I AM SURE YOU WOULD AGREE, ITS BETTER TO TAKE TIME(even if he has to re-stage the contest) before deciding ON THAT 'ONE' DESIGN THE CLIENT/CH MAY BE READY TO LIVE WITH ......... LIKE SOMETHING FOR...FOREVER!!!

THESE REACTIONS FROM US IN THE FORM OF ABUSE'S MIGHT JUST SCARE AWAY THE CLIENTS/CH's FROM SUCH A NICE PLATFORM OF '99DESIGN.COM' OR MAY JUST FORCE THEM INTO DECIDING ON AN IDENTITY THAT THEY MAY END UP REGRETTING!!!

ATLEAST ETHICALLY WE NEED TO PRACTICE AT GIVING THE CLIENT/CH ATLEAST THIS LIBERTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    &

    CH,
please ignore the abuse as it was out of ignorance as many were not aware of the change in system by 99designs.

you know its a competitive feel & environment over here, and things in all probablility stand to flare up at times.

ALL THE BEST WITH THE IDENTITY THAT YOU CAN LIVE WITH ... EVERYDAY!!!

    cheers

Only because the CH hadn't gotten around to eliminating them yet. My designs are still in for consideration, but I submitted mine when everything but a few were eliminated. Kinda makes you think ...
