Thanks to everyone for contributing, i'm actually pretty overwhelmed that so many people put so much work in! Sorry there can be only one winner, but thanks for all the contributions, much appreciated.

#29: i like this best so far, but i think the detail in the letting will be lost - this needs to work for t-shirts so needs to be kept fairly simple. i'm trying to dig up some visual references to help. i picked the Mrs Eaves font on my website because i really liked this image:

maybe that's something you can work with. I'm also a big fan of Gary Hume's work, for example:

hope this helps a little. again, think englishness: British psychedelia (Sgt Pepper cartoon) and pop art (Peter Blake), old Victorian posters (http://tinyurl.com/6zbb97), etc.

I see we have a fan of Kraftwerk's Autobahn album art. You know what to do.

Yes I am open to anyone trying to abbreviate it. I must say at the moment these entries are looking quite corporate - everyone please bear in mind that this is a band logo and should be able to compete with more famous contemporary band logos. And also, when I say evoke Englishness, I don't mean just stick the Union Jack above the name ;) I want evoke a particular Englishness the way Dylan evokes a particular Americana - think Victorian posters, the London Underground logo, Charles Rennie Mackintosh (yes i know he's Scottish...) etc.

Hello, people are lazy and tend to use abbreviations for long names (anything longer than 3 syllables mostly). Could you image the initials / or an icon being the main part, with the full name in small underneath for example?
