Design brief

Organization name

Conrad Foundation

Description of business

We run a program called the Spirit of Innovation Challenge. It is a global competition for high school-aged students to use their science, math, engineering and technology skills to develop commercially viable products or services to solve problems in the areas of Aerospace & Aviation, Energy & the Environment, Cybertechnology & Security, and Health & Nutrition.

We help them combine classroom knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship to create products and solutions that also support global sustainability and provide relevance to the skills they learn in the classroom.

Description

Online badges - think scouting merit badges - are becoming very popular ways to distinguish personal profiles online. They are a visual representation for recognition of achievement. We need a set of badges created for the categories of:
Aerospace & Aviation
Energy & the Environment
Cybertechnology & Security
Health & Nutrition

The program is multi-phased, so we need a phased version for each category that identifies the user as a semi-finalist, finalist and winner. That could be done by adding a component on to the badge, a new shape or a banner across the badge with the words that identify the phase - or - a cool idea that YOU think would be a great way to convey progress through the program.

We also need to identify the year on the badge as some students will participate in multiple years.

It is possible for a user to get a badge in multiple categories (eg. both Aerospace & Aviation AND Health & Nutrition). So, we want them to be different from one another, but cohesive within the program.

Our audience is high school students, so we want to be age appropriate and dynamic. Finished size should be approximately 1.5 inches.
