Description

We're giving a presentation (a TEDx talk, will be online) about psychology & human behavior and need 6 icons for it.

The powerpoint for the talk will have a black background, and there will be little on each slide other than the icons and a couple words.

As the end product we need the source files, ideally in vector format (e.g. .ai or .eps)

Here are the 6 icons we need designed:

Note that icons 1 and 2 need to be of similar style, since they are on the same slide, and so do icons 4, 5 and 6, since they'll be on the same slide.  But otherwise you can have different styles.  So if you'd like, you can have different styles for: (1 and 2), 3, and (4, 5 and 6).

Icons 1 and 2 will go on the same slide:

*** Icon 1: something that depicts: “Intelligence can be developed”
*** Icon 2: something that depicts: “Intelligence is fixed”

(for more on what the sentences above mean, see http://alumni.stanford.edu/content/ or
http://www.mindsetworks.com/webnav/

If you would like, one of the ideas you can use for the “Intelligence can be developed” icon is the brain/tree-type icon in our logo at http://www.mindsetworks.com/images/ (but this is just an idea – feel free to explore others)

*** Icon 3: [depicting 'struggling and experiencing a setback' (like not succeeding in a trial for something)]. Icon 3 will go on a slide by itself, when the presenter is saying "Because the second puzzle was hard, all the kids struggled and experienced a setback."

Icons 4, 5 and 6 will go on the same slide, while the presenter is saying:
There’s a lot that we can do to develop growth mindsets, but today I just want to leave you with three simple things that all of us can do to instill a growth mindset in ourselves and in those around us:
*** Icon 4: [depicting 'how the brain works']. First, learn or teach others about how the brain works and how it changes, physically and functionally, when we focus on it. Learn about the science showing the plasticity of the brain, and reflect on how this applies to the everything we do.
*** Icon 5: [depicting 'what one can do to grow and improve']. Second, learn or teach others about what successful people do to grow and improve. Learn about what deliberate practice is, and what differentiates effective effort from banging our heads against the wall. Once we understand why some effort doesn’t yield results, and how to get positive results, we can see the path to success, which further strengthens our conviction that we’re in charge of your own growth.
*** Icon 6: [depicting 'monitor what we say and what we hear']. And third, monitor what we tell ourselves, what we tell others, and what we hear from others. Catch yourself when you’re thinking that you’re not good at something, or that someone else is a natural, or that effort is a sign of weakness. Then walk yourself through the growth mindset logic.

==========

If you're struggling to come up with ideas, here are some:

- for icon 1, you could use the blue icon in our logo http://www.mindsetworks.com/images/…s_logo.jpg (in any color you'd like).  Or you can play with ideas in that symbol, like a growing tree or connecting neurons, or other ideas you may have.

- some ideas for icon 2 may include a locked keyhole or padlock or manhole cover or rock or IQ test, or ideas you may have.

- for icon 3 you could try somebody falling down, or a posture of disappointment, etc.

- icon 4 could build on a brain, or neurons, etc.

- icon 5 could be about growth, like a chart trending upwards, or about practices, like someone practicing.

- icon 6 could be about listening, like an ear.

But feel free to experiment with your own ideas.
