Polygon by Calcul8.it
Develops iPad and iPhone apps for engineers that I would have loved to have when I did classical engineering.
Technology
An icon for the iPad app Polygon - a 3D model viewer for engineers.
The colors of the icon should match or somehow fit to the rest of the app, screenshots here: calcul8.it/polygon-app/ (apologies for the design)
The models to be viewed are Finite Element models (try google them) which have a characteristic meshed pattern and faceted surfaces (instead of smooth) the icon could show a P (for Polygon) designed like this or some other simple 3D shape.
I like simple icons with a distinct shape that can be recognized even when the icon is very small inside a folder, but that has details that appear and look beautiful when the icon is huge in the App Store.
I like the 3D effect on the icons from Autodesk:

connecting 232,373 designers with customers seeking design services.
