Can I use Wingdings or other symbol fonts in my design?
Most fonts have copyright attached; Webdings, and Wingdings One, Two and Three are all copyright the Microsoft Corporation. That Microsoft bundles their fonts with their products does not mean they are public domain or that they do not have usage restrictions. Similarly, other symbol fonts such as ITC Zapf Dingbats (copyright the ITC) are owned by their respective type foundries.
Some of the glyphs in these fonts — such as the recycle symbol — are obviously public domain and are able to be used, but they are not copyrightable unless heavily modified and/or are part of a larger design.
