This was one of the top 20 blog posts on The Creative Edge from 2013! Don’t miss out on the rest.
A couple of weeks ago, 99designs was inspired by Yahoo!’s announcement
of a logo redesign to suit their company’s recent updates and changes, and created a community contest, challenging our designers to take the redesign into their own hands.
While Yahoo! said early on that they would be staying true to the basics of their branding (they’d keep it a simple, purple word mark), we gave the community ultimate freedom to take it in a whole different direction – and we got a TON, over 5000+ entries to be exact, of fantastic ideas!
To increase the anticipation and add a bit of playfulness to their new branding, Yahoo! began a 30 days of change
campaign, displaying a new logo every day before showcasing their real redesign (look out for it on September 5th!).
Playing off of Yahoo!’s 30 days of change, here’s a video display of our favorite 30 designs from the contest – what we thought were the most unique, creative, and thoughtful reworks of Yahoo!’s logo. Enjoy!
See the rest of the contest here, and a big thank you to all who participated!
