Introducing a new and improved browse contests page

Your skills win you clients. But how do you go about finding the right clients to win?

Locating the right contests — projects that match your interests, skills and expertise — is key to success on 99designs. We know this. You’ve shown us and you’ve asked us to help make the whole browsing process more efficient.

Well, we listened and have a gift you’ll be pretty excited about: a completely re-designed browse contests page.

We cleaned up the old one and added a lot more functionality to help you search with as much precision as possible. Organize by your preferences, filter out the noise and pinpoint the contests that are meant for you.

Let’s take a quick tour.

Browse contest

Select a category, subcategory and key term

Here we are. Tools at the top and the option for infinite scroll at the bottom, so you can keep moving until something grabs your interest.

Note: the search does not include contests that are in the Selecting finalist stage. It only contains Open contests so, although it looks like their are less contests than in the past, it is actually the same.

Let’s start up top, with the blue bar. Here you can limit results by category (logo, website & App, etc.).

Categories

Once you make a selection, you’ll then have the option to further limit your results by subcategory (for example, Website & App contains the subcategories “website,” “mobile app,” “social media page” and “other”).

subcategory

From there, if you have a specific idea of what you’re looking for, you can use the search bar to locate contests that contain a specific term — say, “fashion.”

Filter by industry, language, days remaining, prize and contest type

At the top right of the blue bar, you’ll see our nifty new Filters gadget — another way for you to fine tune your search.

Click on it and you’ll be able to search by industry, language (English or German), days remaining in the contest, minimum and maximum prize, and contest type (you can limit results to blind, guaranteed or Gold Exclusive, or exclude these from your search).

Organize by prize, start date, time left and number of entries

So now you’ve got your list and it’s time to start scrolling through it.

Using the 4 buttons on the right, you can arrange the results in ascending or descending order with respect to prize amount (highest to lowest or vice versa), start date (earliest to most recent, or vice versa), time left (most to least time remaining or vice versa) and number of entries (greatest to lowest, or vice versa).

Watch a contest

You’ll notice we moved the key contest information around so it’s easier to find: beneath the contest title, subtitle and industry, you’ll find the start date and whether the contest is Guaranteed (as indicated by the $ seal), blind, private or Gold exclusive. You can also hover over a contest holder’s username and gain insight about their participation in the contest.

To the right, is the number of entries submitted so far, the time remaining, the prize amount and a readily accessible “watch” button to help you keep tabs on the contests that appeal to you.

And the whole page is easier on the eyes, too.

Recent winners page

This wonderful world of change doesn’t stop there. We took the legendary Recent winners section, expanded it and gave winners their own page!

You can find it on the navigation bar nestled happily under the Community tab. From here, you also have easier access to our Designer blog, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Meetup pages — stop by and visit sometime.

Enjoy the new changes and keep telling us how we can improve.

Happy searching and more importantly… happy designing!
