Roi Himan is a 4th year design student the at the Neri Bloomfield School of Design and Education in Haifa, Israel. He is a talented logo designer and also has experience in print, interaction and flash website design. As a 99designs Student Delegate, Roi has helped spread the word about 99designs to his classmates and local students.
How did you get started in design?
I have always been interested in design and art, so when I decided to go to college, I knew studying design was the best option for me.
Describe your design style.
I have an open mind about design and look for inspiration all the time. I like a clean style of design.
Describe your experience on 99designs. How has it helped you as a student and designer?
A friend recommended it to me and since then, I have been hooked. In the beginning I entered a lot of different contests and told myself that I had to win one. Since my first win I have continued to improve my skills, gained a better understanding of the contest holder and have been able to produce better and better logos. As a student, 99designs has really helped me pay the rent and build my portfolio with actual work.
What part of the design process is the most important? What part is your favorite?
Understanding the brief is the most important part. A good brief produces a better outcome.
You do a lot of illustration style logos with monsters, do you have a particular source of inspiration for those, or a particular process you have to come up with them?
What is nice about monsters is that no one know how they look like but each one of us can imagine them. My source for inspiration are the little monsters that live in my head and only come out on paper or on the computer screen.
When you aren’t at school or working on 99designs, what do you like to do?
Between school and 99designs I have no free time, but I do love to paint and do illustrations.
What advice would you give other students who are getting started on 99designs?
Don’t give up! Even if you don’t win, you will learn a lot a long the way. Keep trying, keep learning and you will win eventually.
Why did you want to become a 99designs Student Delegate?
I think 99designs is a great opportunity for all students and I’m glad to help share this opportunity with them. I’m proud of competing with great designers around the world and as a student I have learned something new with each contest I have participated in.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to say thank you to designs for the great opportunities they have given me.
