Shortcut cheat sheet: Adobe InDesign

Don’t you worry, print and packaging designers. We haven’t forgotten about you!

This week’s shortcut cheat sheet is for Adobe InDesign — beloved by magazine-makers and brochure-creators everywhere! It’s also handy for creating posters or infographics (it’s what I used to create this series).

Don’t use InDesign? We have a whole series of shortcut cheat sheets: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or CorelDRAW.

Don’t see your favorite program? Let us know! We’ll queue it up for next time.

It’s a multi-screen world with your audience accessing content from various devices. InDesign now helps you create multiple versions (not multiple layouts) of your layout to adapt it to different screen sizes AND all this, from a single InDesign file. With all new Liquid Layouts, forget spending time on fitting your content into different sizes based on orientation. See these new features in action ->

    Adobe Illustrator CS6:

The shiny new Illustrator tracing tool engine will convert those raster images into vectors with accurate fitting, super fine and clean lines in just a few simple steps. How? -> http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-web/pattern-creation-in-illustrator-cs6/?sdid=JUMNB

Imagine a gradient that is aware of strokes and let’s you choose different ways to adapt to it. Never again will you have to worry about gradient adaptations and you don’t even have to convert your strokes to outline. Add this with Pattern creation tools that let you create repetitive flexible patterns and it’s sure to be a visual treat.

I’ve been struggling to align a re-recording dialog for this video I shot at school and a friend suggested I try the new Audition CS6 from Adobe with this new ADR tool – http://tv.adobe.com/watch/cs6-creative-cloud-feature-tour-for-video/how-to-use-auto-speech-alignment-in-audition/?sdid=JUMNF I have to say it’s made my life so much easier. You can get the demo from here – http://www.adobe.com/in/downloads/?sdid=JUMTN and trust me, it’ll save you a lot of time.

Photoshop – Using the new three-part Blur Gallery
Powered by the new Mercury Graphics Engine, the Blur Gallery allows you to apply and combine three kinds of blur. Use it to create depth-of-field effects in post. This highly versatile filter also allows you to customize specific points of blur and focus.

I started playing with InDesign CS3 as an amateur and sort of figured it out by myself over the past few years. Fortunately, the magazine I work for doesn’t need much more than page layouts so I managed without any real professional help. Recently when they decided to go digital I kinda shat myself. Fortunately this roadshow video

helped me learn a lot about interlinking, dynamic layouts and all that and basically gave me enough confidence to take on this new project head first!

I’ve been a big fan of Adobe’s software and often upgraded to the latest suites to keep up with the technology. This time around, I bought CS6 but there were just sooo many features that I couldn’t keep up with. I watched truck loads of demo videos for each individual software but remembering it all is pain. This roach show that they hosted

was really helpful because it gives me all I need to know, in one simple palce!
