99designs gives British start-ups a real leg up during April

Entrepreneurs got a big boost in the UK this week with the launch of StartUP Britain – an initiative to celebrate, inspire and accelerate enterprise across the United Kingdom. With the full backing of the UK government, this private venture aims to encourage growth and build a more stable UK economy by supporting small businesses with the resources and knowledge needed to get off the ground and succeed.

This is an initiative we can get behind!

Not only has 99designs already helped thousands of small businesses across the UK get professional design work done but British designers represent the 5th largest segment of our design community – these British entrepreneurs are making thousands of pounds, each and every month designing in our community! To further support the StartUP Britain initiative and entrepreneurism in the UK, 99designs is going to give back the total cost of one contest run by UK small business every week throughout the month of April!

That’s not all though, all UK businesses that decide to launch a design contest during the month of April will receive a free power pack upgrade, valued at $85!

All you need to do to be eligible for your contest refund or to claim your powerpack is:

  1. Click on the following link: http://99designs.com/go/startupbritain
  2. Go to the 99designs website and launch a design contest between now and April 30th.
  3. Check your emails and our website to see if you have won!

What are you waiting for?… Head on over to http://99designs.com/go/startupbritain now, start a design contest and claim your powerpack!

    *completely off topic

pretty please, please – do not make 99designs fixed width. logged in today and saw that all the contests are on a fixed width at ~960px . no longer spreading throughout my entire screen. hope it’s just a bug of yours/mine and will be fixed.

I AM NOT A CHAP. SO STOP THE ‘CHAPS’ ONLY CRAP. IF THIS IS THE METHOD BY WHICH YOU PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS, THEN ‘MY’ BUSINESSES WILL NOT BE PURCHASING FROM YOU.

I am sorry we did not mean any disrespect.

I think our marketing team was just trying to be cute not exclusionary.

Please accept our apology for the misunderstanding.

      Cheers,
      Jason

Velvet needs to take a chill pill. It was good marketing. We’re not that wound up over here in the UK!

Haven’t you been removed from this site now? I think a lot of people here in Britain are upset that an Australian site was added as the logo design site on a website aimed at start up companies here in the UK? Nothing against what you do or your site, as im a user of your site!

Just think that this post might need to be edited or commented on,

      Thanks- we appreciate your support.

Yes – StartUP Britain did remove the link to us but we are supporting StartUP Britain anyway.

99designs has already helped thousands of small businesses and freelance designers across the UK – no need for that to change.

      Cheers,
      Jason

    What ho! (G’day!)

Just reading through the comments, from all appearances it looks like us Brits:

    A. Cannot take a joke
    B. Don’t understand the term cliché
    C. Are all militant feminists

I am amazed and embarrassed that my fellow country men (and women) took your use of British language from the 1930′s, clichés, expressions and sayings quite literally! I mean golly gosh, how terribly, terribly typical of the lower-classes, I bet they have never even heard of that dear PG Wodehouse fellow.

Anyhow fair dinkum to 99designs crew, keep up the bonzer work mates, I appreciate your support. Strewth! personally I would ignore the narkie scrubbers!

Thanks for the kind words and Nice use of some stereotypical Australian slang there :) We were definitely not trying to be condescending. We have a bunch of British employees here at our headquarters, who we consulted before posting the banner on the site.

Everything which has been posted is done so in a light-hearted manner. We hope that nobody takes this the wrong way. There have been some great contests run via the promotion over the last few weeks!

        Here here, Anonymous concerned Brit,

Thoroughly agree – some of us Brits cannot take a joke. Where has the fun and spirit gone?

I am currently running a contest through the site and was actually drawn to 99designs through Startup Britain. I loved the banner and link to this blog on the home page – it was actually the fun element the crew had introduced that made me use you guys in the first place and not go elsewhere.

Keep it up and ignore those moaning minnies!

I have to Agree there! Was extremely distressed to see that British designers (of all people) seemed to have lost their sense of humour. Just thought I would speak out to the rest of the world that we aren’t all like that (promise!) and not all of us are posh and eloquent we certainly aren’t all militant feminists!

Totally agree – think the moaning and complaining people on here need to:

    a) lighten up
    b) smile and
    c) not take themselves too seriously.

People definitely need to lighten up – aren’t us Brits meant to be the pioneers of self deprication?!

On a slightly sadder note, I posted a contest earlier and didn’t get my power-pack upgrade even though I’m UK based. What gives oh 99 design team??

      Hi Matt,

I’m not sure how your contest slipped through the cracks but I have gone ahead and added all of our promotional upgrades to it.

      Cheers,
