Startup pros launch book cover design contest for “The Lean Entrepreneur”

Since 99designs is a startup itself and is frequently utilized by other startups around the world as a key step in preparing to launch, we were thrilled when high-profile entrepreneurs and startup gurus Brant Cooper and Patrick Vlaskovits reached out to us a while back to interview 99designs’ executives for their forthcoming book, “The Lean Entrepreneur.” The book, slated for publication in fall 2012, uses the foundational philosophies of Eric Ries’ New York Times bestseller “The Lean Startup“ (who wrote the foreword) as a springboard to provide a wealth of actionable strategies for entrepreneurs to implement a stringent cost saving approach to starting a new business. Populated with best practices, case studies, and various worksheets, the book aims to provide a pragmatic roadmap for the bootstrapped entrepreneur. (You can pre-order it here!)

We were happy to share 99designs’ tale of bootstrapping our way to global growth with Brant and Patrick – and equally pleased when they decided to launch a design contest for the book cover! They’re seeking, in Patrick’s words, an “epic” book cover that exudes “simplicity and power, captures attention and instantly sells the book.” The brief included sweet samples of the book’s interior illustrations by artist FakeGrimlock, which can be included in or complement the cover art. The contest has garnered some fantastic design submissions since its launch last week, and there are still two more days to go – you can vote in their most recent poll and let them know what you think here!
