Thanx guys ;)
The toughest part of this whole contest was picking a winner from the many great designs that were submitted. In the end, I relied on a trusted group of people that closely represented the target audience to help me. The unanimous feedback was that Violet's design had the best appeal, but it was very closely followed by others like Alaxander and Gangmaz.
I would like to congratulate Violet on winning the prize, and offer my most sincere thanks, and sympathies to the others that entered but did not win. I was very sad that this good work was not able to win. You all have great talent, and should be proud of what you created.
Sincerely, David
Now that the contest is over, I would like to thank all the designers that submitted entries. I was blown away by the quality of the designs, and creativity shown with the imagery that some of you came up with. Bravo!
I am now left with a series of great designs that I plan to show to a few people to test their reactions.
Please accept my grateful thanks to all of you for your hard work, creativity, and willingness to participate. It seems so unfair that there can only be one winner, as so many of you did great work.
Best, David
@ apocalypto
Seems to me that I'm not the only 'stupid' guy here...
If those were CH instructions, how come that other designers didn't follow them? Pixeldoodle, for example has a high rated design, but didn't follow that 'instructions'...
Got it now?
@PixelsUnited
As I said in my previous comment same elements got to be there maybe because the CH wanted to have those in his designs. As simple as it is. Get some rest
@ apocalypto
Design structure elements, like milions of others. THIS IS ONE CONTEST where some of the designers used the SAME elements! After all, I'm a bit tired of this, stupid after all...
You guys kidding right? These designs are just like millions you can find on web, nothing original. They all look the same, boring and unimaginative.
@PixelsUnited
Take a look at this http://99designs.com/contests/29425/entries/25
Did I ever say Violet ripped this design of mine? It has a dark upper half lighter lower part.
take a look here too http://99designs.com/contests/18937/entries/36
where the main content area is divided into two columns. Again the same basic structure that has been followed. Did I say (or should I say) Violet ripped things of mine?? NO I would not. Those are basic layout structures anyone can have. And talking about the elements, maybe the CH has those in his requirements.
Wow, you express your condolence?! to me and even call me stupid... So much of respect.
I've tried (without insulting anyone!) to point that the image is ok, but as an element it's just another stock image that can be used on almost every corporate site... And that Violet's works served as an example to others, which is quite unfair to her.
Sincerely yours,
Stupid fellow
Totally agree to JMS. That's definitely a very strong image in my opinion. It's a pity that some of us boast for being a designer but lack the very basics of designing. A designer needs to be a good visualizer too. Designing is not about how good you are with designing tools, but it's about how good you visualize and and effectively represent what you visualize using those design tools. This is what that makes a good designer.
I have always admired alax's work, he is a great designer. Although its up to the CH to make his decision, I strongly vote for alaxander. His entries are the best here.
It doesn't really matter if someone says"...businessman in the basement...", it just revealed his power of visualization and made us think how stupid some of us really are.
@ jms
Yes, that is definitely what I think. You hit the spot ;)
I understand the power of strong imagery (in fact I do not agree with you in separating the design in that context - either it delivers the message or not), but that image is SO classic. For example, if I was a lawyer, I could have put that image to show a man divorcing from his wife, and is confused about the longevity of the process and the paperwork that he has to go through in order not to get ripped of by his ex, and the light can symbolize me and my precious experience which can help him... There are loads of similar examples...
That's why I like the very first entries of Violet - deep and artistic approach to the subject, her work convey the messages very well, in combination with beauifull bold headlines with perfect touch of blue...
In the end, YOU are not being objective, I assume that Alaxandar is your friend since you call him "Alax", and you haven't spent a single word commenting Violet's work, and she definitely is (one of) the headliner (s) here.
And final note: Alaxandar's first work appeared AFTER Violet has been given 5 stars for a design with cool big dark header and combination of gray and light blue touches for the body - appeared with VERY similar elements.
Long live blind contests!
Sorry for the size of the comment.
Yup, businessman in the basement, def. awesome.
My vote goes to alaxander. He did the best job here. Everything so organized so perfectly positioned, even his interpretation of images for different sections is just awesome. I didn't mean to disregard other participants, many of them did good job, but, alax is simply the best here.
Speaking of ELEGANCY, Violet did the best job, and speaking of blog looking website, again it's Violet, text is clear, without distracting details and common corporate stocks...
#80 #93 #94 rocks, great color scheme...simple & modern but with a strong message ;]
