    I am confused as to what format. I see alot of photoshop stuff. Is that an option here or do you want a scalable vector design logo? While photoshop stuff is really cool and fun to make it is not a reasonable solution to a logo, unless it will only be used on web.

    Illustrator has came a long way. What looks like photoshop work could be vector graphics. All my designs are vector #41 - #43 and #34 and could be stretched from 1 inch to billboard size without any quality loss.

    I agree and i am not putting anyone down for using it. I love it but it is still not a proper way to create a logo. I am just wondering what the C/H is looking for. If Photoshoip is an option, then i am going to town! lol

    sure it can. But if a contest holder is looking for a vector why would you make something that CAN be converted to a vector? Just make a vector. This is why i am asking what they want. I would love to make a cool PSD full of nasty effects, if they dont care it is vector. WHat ones do i think are photoshop? #12,18,19,21,22,23,27,28,29,30,34,41,42,43,51,53,54.

    #54 is purely vector, done in Illustrator. So is my other one. I didn't use photoshop for any of it.

    You missed the point like as many of the entrants.
    My LOGOs are vector.
    The pictures are only pictures from the net.
    Just a way to represent the LOGOS in a horror style environment. It's like when you enter a t-shirt design contest you represent your design on a pic of a t-shirt
    That may was confusing for many like #53 #58 #60 #61 ect which are not real designs only fonts on a downloaded pic.
    I may resubmit my designs in the style of #32 so it wont be ambiguous.
    All in all my logos are in AI the rest is just presentation. Anyway I'm glad you like those ;)

    You missed my point. I never once said a bad thing about your design, or anyone else. I like Photoshop, i want to use photoshop for this one. I was simply asking the C/H what he wants. There is no point in making a photoshop effects montage if they dont want it. There is nothing more to it. And i do like your design. #66. I like your updated version. I just thought the brief was not very clear.

    #10 is clipart from http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/illustrations-vectors/vector-cartoons/4405647-pure-evil.php?id=4405647

    Istockphoto does not allow their cliparts to be used for logos. 99designs does not allow clipart . thanks

    All of the faces are clipart or tranced photos? Really? Well, at least I drew my arm with blade in #5, but I did get the idea from Children of the Corn.

    I love #1 and #2, where do you find that stuff? It was posted so fast I figured it wasn't drawn so I looked at iStockphoto and did notice the one in #10. In fact, if you look at the enlarged design, you can see part of the "o" from the watermark that was removed, lol. The tree used is also from iStockphoto. :(

    But, I would like to have some ready made artwork like those faces and stuff, that's cool! Again, where can I buy that stuff?

    Agreed kig, I think 99Designs main focus is to keep people from using Royalty FREE clipart. I mean, how can one really sell ALL rights to something THOUSANDS of people are using for free?

    On the other end of the stick, if it's a mass sold clipart that 50 people buy & 10 use it in a logo, how original is that logo now? And with 10 logo's using it, can one truly sell the copyrights to it?

    These may sound like silly questions, but when a Logo is concerned that represents a company, it's means everything! :)

    Thanks for the comments LKirk, I meshed a few photos together in PS and converted to a vector file in illustrator. I NEVER use clipart. I want the person I am designing for to have something original... after all that's what they are paying for....

    Meshing a few photos together in Photoshop and converting them to a vector is far from original, not talking about copyright issues you still have in that case.

    I wish everyone could just be mature in these contests, go with the flow, and only comment if you have something relevant to say. It makes everyone look bad and gives the CHs a bad experience when they get on here and see a bunch of complaints about their choices. I think what it probably is is that the CH wants this logo for things like tshirts and signs...maybe the website. I don't think it will need the simplicity of a traditional logo because it isn't likely that it will be used on business cards and letterheads. It's also only going to be used for a few months at most. I mean, seriously guys, think about haunted attractions. Have you ever seen one with just a logo? And for that matter...if we're going to get into clip art, let's get into fonts. Do you all make your own fonts too? It's called graphic design and not graphic art for a reason. Don't hate, create, folks. Do your best and mind your own business. If you spent more time designing and less time complaining, and your designs are so original and good, maybe you would have the five star entry.

    I don't really know why you're acting here as a moderator.

    The main questions were that
    - is it a LOGO design contest or not? (if not the category should be something else and some of us would have never entered)
    - is a raster graphic design useable for the CH? ( he/she maybe becomes very upset when it turns out the design he/she payed for can be printed only in the size of an IDcard)
    - is it a good idea to use (for ex.)a horror pic from a DVD cover in a design?

    Not all Haunted attractions are a one time deal though. Most keep all there props & graphics for the following year if it was profitable enough previously. And if it was profitable & continues to another year, they may actually want business cards & letterheads seeing that they now own a lucrative (Recurring) Service event.

    True, maybe the CH doesn't actually want a log & is leaning more towards a poster / T-shirt / Flier type design. A logo is different than all those things though. matter a fact a logo is placed On top of the flier / t-shirt / poster to show recognition to the company supporting / hosting / owning the marketable graphics displayed.

    To make a long story short, i think everyone is simply expressing their confusion as the the exact details / requirements of the contest. No big deal really. They just seem to be venting frustration in different ways.

    I like a lot of the work up there :) Some are logo's, some are poster / t-shirt / flier, & some are logo's combined with t-shirt / flier / poster. Lot's of options for the CH to choose from & plenty of entries.

    I agree with you Scorpion, I meant a couple of months out of the year. I don't know why I'm acting as a moderator here either. I guess I just get tired of all the negativity that I see in most of the contests here. I guess when it's on a public forum for all to see, it becomes public business. I totally see what you're saying, Redzart. I'm just saying that unless you know that a person's design isn't in vector, or that their picture came from a DVD cover, why make accusations? I'm not saying you were, and my comments weren't directed at any particular person. It just seems like every time a contest doesn't go the way of certain people, they want to tear apart the other designs. Everyone is just trying to give the CH what they want. As for whether it is a logo contest or not, maybe the CH put it into the wrong category. He seems to be giving low ratings to anything that is a "logo" with the exception of the stuff by Dave@Brainbox. I understand your frustration and I feel it too. I am just saying that it's a contest. The CH decides the winner. It's about what they want, whether it fits our definitions or not. If it doesn't and that offends us, we don't have to enter and we don't have to be bitter about it.

    If you use Photoshop make sure you use the highest quality setting. 2 - 300 dpi. Make sure you let the contest holder know what they are getting. No one likes to be surprised. Make sure it is large enough so the contest holder can use it for multiple applications.

    If you are using Illustrator there are no worries. It can be resized to infinity. I have to agree that to get the ultimate horror effect on this contest, that photoshop is the way to go! ( at least that is what i gather from the contest holders likes so far) So Photoshop is what i used. The text is vector and can go on anything.

    I'm still confused about this contest, everyones having this debate about whats logos and whats something more of flier art,and most of the high rated stuff isnt a logo,..so yeah,.. I dunno what we're suppost to be doing to satisfy the CH.

    I'm not bitter about what I've done has low or no ratings,just trying to be clear as to what exactly the CH is actually looking for,some revised guidelines would be nice to keep everyone on track.

    It is clear they want a logo, but are they buying the text, or are they expecting a background to be made for it to be placed on? Because thats what i see going on.These are like posters, not logos.
    So naturally someone with 4 stars will say the brief is clear... Is your logo the words or the picture or both?

    I'm a big fan of #88 ... It looks like a logo, it has all the elements required, it doesn't look like clip art or a stock photo.

    Would be easy to print, easy to reverse the white to black.

    Oh... and it's creepy.

    I'm in agreement. #88 is one of the stronger designs here and is actually a logo. The red outline around the words "The" and "Acre" needs to be bumped up a bit so it shows at a smaller size, but it's still very nice. Sadly it sits there with no rating while the photoshopped stock photo of an eye ( #84 ) right next to it has 3 stars. doh!
