- Brief Summary
-
Atlas Lounge will opening in near future. We are looking for a logo that can not only be put on the outside of the entrance, but on the website, menus, flyers, and other forms to identify who we are and represent. Lounge doesn't need to be after it. Use your creativity. This will be for A level clientele who are trendy and on the move. Think Entourage meets Pussycat Dolls type of appeal.
Something that can be used in Miami, NY and LA.
After some thoughts, we're thinking possibly of a maroon/red/gold/black theme without a slogan/footer. And it can just be "Atlas" with a globe as well.
No cliparts please. Also feel free to submit logo's without taglines...
Update: fyi as of right now, we're leaning towards #24 and #118, but please continue to bring in the great ideas! thanks everyone!

Can we see some with possibly an atlas/globe with a little asian touch to it? keep in mind this is a trendy restaurant and not a consulting firm. the restaurant is an asian/world fusion food with sushi from around the world and serving cocktails in the lounge after hours. thanks!

Question: Is this logo to be only for web or print as well? I
only ask cause some of the top rated will not print out as
well as you would like it.~Bob

Bob, I was just about to ask the same thing. #81 and #82 would be a costly print for a banner, signage, etc. It would also poorly translate to a business card or small print needs like a menu.
To the contest holder: before selecting a winner, you should verify that an image can be scaled down to fit a business card, website, and easily converted to black and white. For signage, you'll need to be able to increase the size exponentially (including door signs, awnings, window etchings, etc). Often, this entails the design being 100% vector (created in Illustrator, Fireworks, Freehand, etc but not necessarily Photoshop). Another consideration is print. If the design uses too many gradients, shadows, and variations of colors, the print costs will automatically become more.

thanks for everyone's designs. To asnwer some of the questions, this will be for web as we're making a website for the lounge. It will also be used on the menus, signage for the building, etc. So yes, we are looking for something versatile.
One thing we are looking for a Font that will stand on it's own, but at the same time fits in with a design element to it. 24 and 82 are what we're interested in. Especially 24, it has a design element to it, but the letters can stand on its own. even though it is a sushi type restaurant, we're not going for the cheesy asian look to it. thanks for everyone's inputs! first time using the site, and this is what attracted us as we can see many people's inputs. Thanks!

Atlas, as Bob and I have already stated, your highest rated logos are not currently print worthy. If you really like the logo, ask the designers to provide with a solid background and in multiple sizes. I think you'll see exactly what we're talking about.
I'd hate for you to close this contest, announce a winner, and then find out you've got a Photoshop file with clipart and an eccentric, licensed font that can't be found or you do not own the rights to... What's worse than that? Sending a 72dpi clipart to a printer to get a 300dpi, CMYK print.
I know that you've asked several, but you're eliminating *a lot* of quality, eye-catching, and even iconic and chic logos for what appears to be stock photography and Photoshop filters that will not translate on a large print at 300dpi/ppi or downsize to fit on a business card or napkin.
All I'm saying is, "Buyer beware."

Some of the designs do look awesome but the translation between the display view and other marketing materials is limited. -

The earth is not his design and clearly with the pixelation a rip form a copyrighted source.
From the host it looks as he/she don't know what vector graphics is to bitmap and also
don't know graphics in general. What gets me is this is for a sushi place and yet he/she
knocks the asian culture when there have been great designs submitted. Don't knock
the culture! -

Whoa that is dead on a match and regardless violates copyright
law. entz has done right to point it out. Sorry just cause you
made yours doesn't mean it doesn't violate copyright laws. You
can't legally sell that logo. All it takes is someone on here to
report the rip and you will get banned and also if someone should
contact the holder of the original logo, could end up in courts
with a large law suit way more then any prize amount. The fine
alone for copyright both international and US is more then any win.Buyer beware cause courts goes after the user and the maker.

OK I checked this issue more detailed and i see that I was on same path with a treatment of an sphere. Rules of geometry are same for all of us..and sphere luckily is same everywhere! but still i see quite a lot of difference in shape which makes this logo an original.Thats it.If CH think its a problem well...what can I say. Don't take it. But logo is here you and you can use it, nobody will make you a problem with it couse it has more than 50 percent difference which is enough for anything to be considered as original...I call every body to look around him self and this site too and say that everything they see is like nothing else (especially on web) Open your eyes!!

The 50% rule is one that is at the heart of over 90% disputes, and in the end lose. Good example
is Apple Corp. vs Apple Computer both have apples for logo and each could fall over the 50% rule
however Apple Computer lost the battle cause of what was first established design wise. Think the
host needs to contact the original logo through their lawyers. Anyone with the right grievances can
file copyright infringement just remember that.~Bob

neuromancer, similarities occur yes. And there's a lot out there. But this one is 99.9% the same. If David R Kern decides to use the logo in monotone, it will be the same as the one you created with the seperation outlines and all. I'm not saying you cheated or anything. You already won the contest and i only saw this after you've won. Maybe is it conincidental, but it looks way too similar. Bob posted the 2 logos side by side, and do you see any difference? What if the other company decides to sue you and atlas lounge? Better be safe than to end in court. I maybe be wrong as well, let Atlas Lounge attourneys see if it's alright. It is really a nice logo. Sorry and keep up the good work!
Cheers!

For the record, I don't know neromancer, never noticed him around before this contest, but come on, 99.9% ?!?!? Its clearly an unfortunate coincidence, but coincidences occur, the 2 logos are not by far that similar. Bottom line, he entered a superb logo, its a well deserved winning. I looked closely this time, the shapes and colors are different, the arrangement is somewhat similar when you flip it, but that's not 50%, much less 99.9%. -

Well.. tried to be a good samaritan and that's what i get. Do whatever you like Neuromancer. Maybe you should convince the CH to use the winning logo then. My mistake in pointing it out. If it's so not different, we should all be convincing the CH to go for the winning logo. I'm all behind you Neuromancer. Let's all rally and push for this design!!
But wait! Why did you do a different design? i mean, if you are so convince it's that different, then you should go with your guts and push for it. Come on! i'll support you on this one.
And for the fendi thingy, the client wanted it to be like that. I've tried to reason with him, but it was his own sketch and i've just replicate it. So, i guess it's my mistake again. But thanks for pointing it out again.

Elle Apple Inc. did win but at what cost, both sides bore huge legal fees and battles over the years. As
for this case here all I can say is good luck to the winner and host. The new designer is nice but your
portfolio piece could come back and haunt you as you pointing out ENTZ dirty laundry. So quick to attack
others when your in the spot light neuromancer. Don't think of me for you as or supporter or against you

Guys, please keep these discussions out of contests, it's becoming a real problem. There are similarities between the logos you mention, especially after some photoshopping (surprise, surprise), but at the end of the day, they aren't similar enough to be considered infringing copyright. Give it a rest, or at least keep it to PM please.
Just remember what these sorts of flame wars do to your professional credibility.

"they aren't similar enough to be considered infringing copyright"
This is simply not true. They are way ahead of being not similiar enough, I know this from my own experience with registrating brands for customers. You need to know that you really have to pay attention in this case, because it's amazing how expensive this can be.
To be honest, i've done registrations with a globe spired design, quite close to your design and wanted it to be registered by the international trademark association. To do so, you need it to be authorized by a trademark lawyer who accredits that you don't touch incorporated trademarks - you know what, he didn't accredit it. Because of this http://blog.maxxxblack.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/red_dot.jpg existing trademark...
The lucky thing about this was, that in comparison to a possible infringement of trademark and the costs of this, I got away very cheap with asking a lawyer.
