Wow, what an awesome first attempt ! I definitely see the potential for awesomeness in this design. But you forgot the monkeys ;-). My comments:
# My main critique is that the chip and the palm tree make the logo look slightly toyish. Their colors contrast too much with the rest of the design right now. I'd like to see the K and the O slightly darker, with a smoother transition in color from the white. Maybe you can add shading as well. I want to make it a fun yet professional looking design.
#All of the other letters and the motion effects are outstanding ! You read my mind, no need to change these.
# I love the dot-com
#Instead of the main earthquake crack, I'd like you to expirement with multiple shorter cracks that originate from more of the letters. The cracks shouldn't go as far as on your first design (maybe half as far).
#I like the idea of a cash tree so you may want to expirement with leaves made of dollar bills ;-) Maybe with a monkey on top eating the money (kidding obv).
# Along the same lines, I think that the tree needs more design. It looks very generic right now.

Included a new tree and poker chip to make it seem less toyish. Also tried putting in a few smaller cracks instead of the one larger crack, and put in a couple falling dollars from the tree. Top version with color, bottom version white.
Incredible ! You sir are very talented. This pretty much surpasses my expectations... I guess you could still try changing the I into the state of California, or show california on the poker chip. But I love what you've done already.
I don't how to improve this much further honestly. This looks like a 2000 dollar logo to me. I assume I could keep the top and bottom logo versions?
I'm not going to award this just yet as there is still value in having designs coming in the next few days, but right now the competition is going to have to play catch up.

Absolutely, thanks! In the final .psd file I can include both the white version and color version, or whatever else you would request. I will work on changing the 'I' into 'California' and experiment with other ideas as well.

Pretty slick.
I think the A would look sligly better if the long leg of the letter was to the right. Basically, you'd be rotating the A around the short leg 180 degress to the right and moving the letter to the left closer to California.
Concerning the California letter, I'd like to see the top and bottom portions flush with the top and bottom planes of the rest of the letters. I like that the left side is parallel with the N as you've done.
Can you provide the black and white version as well? I'd like to expirement a black and white version with a blue chip and a red chip. This would be the only colors in the logo (the tree would still be black and white).
And finally, seperate from all of the above, I have a 25 dollar bonus for you if you can add can a nifty looking road that leads down to the chip. I think this would convey travel to California very well. This should be done only for the color version. The 25 would be contigent upon me chosing one of your designs that includes the road. So the total would be 350 dollars. You're almost there by the way :)
I think that the road that I have in mind may be hard to design. It would sort of come out of the bottom of the logo, maybe curve up a little, and gradually dive down and narrow in width towards the chip. This "3D feel" road should be very large and visible for a short distance at first (keep the width of the road in between the two main cracks coming out of the Rs though). I really want to convey a "sinking" feeling and a "road trip/length" feeling.
Please try a version with a regular chip and one where the chip shows the road 66 sign ;-). I'd also like the road to have a nice light blue color. We should try to keep the design as uncluttered as possible as well.
Of course, you don't have to do this! I just think this would be fun and creative:) I understand it might be *REALLY* comlicated though. ;-) I'm testing your limits I guess.

We have a winner !!! I'd still like you to do two things for me.
#On Design 12 with the road, can you replace the blue-ish color with the same color scheme as the letters (Rick did a great job doing that).
#Second, can you try to make your logos fit in the same box size as the revolution logo here: http://pokerfornia.com/Images/logo.gif
This is basically so I can plug and play in my existing theme. If there isn't enough room to show off all the detail, don't worry, I can increase the header size. The file needs to be a gif. Please shrink every logo down as much as possible without compromising quality.
My favorite design is going to be a tossup between your new version 12, with the white road, and version 11. Can I please keep both to make sure? I'd also like to keep number 8 since it includes the most color. I hope that's OK ?

By the way, I promised to give you credit on my website. I'm targeting to have around 200 uniques a day. I'm still in the process of adding content/ forums and using SEO but I think this is a realistic number to achieve.
When my website will be complete, I can add a "Need a Poker Logo ?" tab at the bottom with a link to your site. Obviously my site is still under construction right now but it will mature fast. Let me know if you'd be interested.
Designing poker logos sounds like an interesting niche actually....You could start a poker logo design service and advertise on poker forums. I think there is a market, you may even be approached by online poker rooms, local clubs etc.. As you can see, I'm interested in business. Sorry for rambling on.
