Thanks for all of the submissions everyone. We've been completely overwhelmed with the response we've had from this contest. We appreciate each and every one of your entries and wish we were able to give detailed feedback to each and every one, but that is pretty difficult when you receive almost 350 of them and are running a startup. We hope you will be patient while we decide which we've picked as the winner; it's going to be a very tough decision as there are so many amazing submissions.
We'd also like to let the community know that we will be holding a second contest immediately after the winner of this current one is decided. A logo can only go so far without a beautiful website supporting it. We've been so pleased with the results and use of 99designs.com that we haven't even considered an alternative way of having the site built.
We look forward to working with the 99designs community in the future. We hope to have a winner picked within 24 hours or so.
Thanks!
The Mazenti Team

I will start by saying: to everyone that has submitted a design, and in some cases, designs, thank you. We appreciate your endeavors to help present our new company in the best light possible.
I have been impressed at the response that our post has garnered. Watching the interpretations of each of your designs come to fruition has been interesting, especially as we try to understand the thought process that has gone into each of the designs.
Allow me to give you some additional, knee-jerk, high altitude reaction based on what I have seen:
1) I have come to the conclusion that, while remarkably symbolic and elegant, designs with leaves really are NOT the appropriate direction for us to take. As is mentioned in the initial description, we are an energy company before we are an environmental company. That is, the clients that we provide services to are working towards eliminating our world's dependancy on carbon based fuels. Obviously, the environment benefits from this, but that is not always the primary motivation for the work that our clients do. In some cases it is to ease economic constraints on consumers (how much does gas cost you?), or is seen as a way to eliminate a lot of conflicts that are ignited by oil (no pun intended). At the same time, that is not to say that Mazenti does not care about the environment, nor do we not work with those clients. We, unequivocally, do. I understand the challenge that this may pose for you. To those of you that have designed leaves into your logos: do not despair as yet. We have made no final decision.
2) I must admit that I have a tendency to like those designs that are blue. I like blue. Its my favorite color. AND I like what it represents in terms of our business. Its clean, pure, refreshing, even ENERGising. Having said that, I also believe that there should be some green as well. I believe that people tend to think "green" when they think about alternative energy.
3) Because we stipulated about not having a specific type of alternative energy represented (a wind mill, etc) I know its hard to be too clever and innovative around creating a "cool logo/image." However, some imagery that you may want to try and incorporate is sustainability, infinity, the world, etc. If you feel you have done this, it would also be particularly helpful if you explained your train of thought when you post your design. That way, we can "get it."
4) Against the desires of my staff, I have posted examples of logos that I have seen that I really like below. As you are looking at them, you will notice that things that I like are when the design cleverly creates an insignia or symbol by bringing together two components that when combined create a third. This may not be possible as we have only one word in our name. For what it may be worth, it at the very least provides insight into what I like.

One more comment: Another item we are basing our decision on is if your logo exceeds what we think about our current logo, which is very simple but does a good job of still looking professional and clean. It is NOT memorable or timeless however, and there isn't really anything to it other then words and a line. Still, this is one basis for our critiques and if you were eliminated early on it is possible one of our reasons was our current logo stood up stronger then your submission. To be fair we'd like you to be able to see our current logo: http://www.mazenti.com/images/logo.gif
PLEASE do not take any colors, fonts, or the website itself into consideration. This is a full rebranding process and even the website is being completely redesigned. We simply wanted to let the designers know what our current logo looks like so they at least know what they are attempting to improve.

Just saw this comment box, didn't notice it with so many entries! We've been very pleased with the response so far and can't wait to see more in the coming days. We've been trying to rate and comment on as many entries as possible and will continue to do so throughout the contest. A few pointers after seeing and commenting on some of the entries we like and don't like:
1. We are leaning heavily towards the designs which feature an icon that could stand alone without the words Mazenti. What I mean by this is that an existing client or someone who has seen our site or work would know our icon was ours without seeing our name next to it.
2. We are leaning heavily towards designs that feature the color green (or really any color variation) in a minimalist way. We don't want the text and entire logo to be green, just the icon or some sort of mark that accents the entire design.
3. We've had a few entries that did everything we specifically asked not to be done in the brief, so it was obvious the person did not read it and we went ahead and just eliminated those designs. Using cursive fonts was one of these requests, we do not want cursive or italics at all. People also seem to be using the tag line wrong, but we're not eliminating entries for this as I guess it is confusing (which is something we may need to think about). The correct tag line is: Business. Developed. (TWO DOTS)
4. We'd prefer our name, Mazenti, to at LEAST have the first letter capitalized, not be all lower case. We've noticed however that most of the designs we really like so far have MAZENTI in all caps.
