htis contest seems to me like everyone start to copy things from eachother LOL, designers before you create your file plase take a moment to go back in the previous pages and see the first submissions...i am about to fill a few complaints about a few submissions already LOL...just seriously, please have respect...try to come upwith your own ideas and not just cope ideas of others.

I agree with you Delight! and it's completely serious to respect each other's work. And please DO NOT submit 9 entries with a small difference only, just wait for the CH feedback on your main idea. Thanks

Yes, there is definitely some copying going on... especially on the font front. The contest holder did not specify a font to use, so there is no reason to copy from previous designers' font choices. :(

...just wait and see, maybe not a frog...but green and shades of green butterfly, green flying dinosaur, jumping elephants and other "exotic" animals can be seen on the upcoming submissions. Important is you give the idea now of using an animal (since we did give the idea of using leaf, you can see now a leaf, leafs, flower, flowers, trees...maybe someone can even illustrate and whole forest? LOL

@delight, #113 is the exact idea I used for a cleaning company last year. I named mine "World Flower" since it was a world in leaves. There was also a huge copyright battle about it.. Bah.

If only designers entered the contest, wouldn't there be a significant amount of different concepts insted of one flow of people doing their take on an idea already in place simply modifying regurgitations of the ones prior and calling it original?

Before i start to my post i must clear something for the rest listed here below, i totaly accept tht i am going now to breack the site rules, but i dont feel sory for that since others also just breack them and they are still "clean water" on the eyes of 99designs...so why this message should be an "violation" in this case!!!
perigryne,
I personaly feel sites as this platform are good for students but not for advanced designers and firms...i congratulate 99designs for comming up with such idea and publish this site since the "service" offered here give an good idea to students what they are about to face in the real world when they get graduated. From other side an negative point i see is, maybe 99 administration need really to consider the suggestion to check their own terms and start to act based on this terms. I have let my lawyer have a loook into this issue a little deeply and there are ton of "holes" in the TOS...the first "impression" the contest owners get when they are "allowed" by the system to submit contest is "YEAH, I OWN AN DESIGNERS ARMY...HOOORRRAAAYYY!"...this is very wrong, i feel the administration "must have" more clear REQUIREMENTS and S?te Terms for contest owners and let them really understand the scope of this service...no one here is employee of any contest owner and this MUST BE IMPRESSED by 99 admins to contest owners and make sure really the person who submit a contest knows what is this site about and its service. The contest owner is NEVER FREE TO:
> require new design concepts from designer(s) to be submited...this is something the designers decide by them selfs to do so or not
> require F?LE(S) modifications to be applied to the submission BEFORE THE CONTEST IS ASSIGNED/AVARDEDContest owner is FREE ONLY to:
> post comments/feedback and rate submissions!!!>>>>>>nothing more before the contest is avared to designer<<<<<<
Some contest owners think we are here to do anything they ask for (even to violate copy rights by looking for "ideas" to designs submited by other designers).
Another reality...not sure you are aware of this...but you cant imagine the number of FREE IDEAS HUNTERS on such platforms...picture this:
You are owner of design agency providing services to local customers...you get asked to quote on corporate identity development (lets say logo design and stationary as example), but the customer is very picky and has rush. Now comes the question..."how to get many concepts in short time?"...Dont worry, there are ton of sites lionline like this where scummers can act as "honest buyers"...here is the MAGIC:
> signup as contest owner
> post the requirements of your local customer as your own contest requirements (project scope)
> start to get only within 10 mins the first submissions
> within 1-2 hours you will have enough "great ideas" to choose from...take the best 3-5
> reproduce (clone) them fast and add your "small touch" to avoid claims of copyrights later from designers you cloned their stuff
> attach to your proposal and next day visit the local company and put the "deal on the table"...WHAT A MAGIC...eh? I know this sounds just crazy, but if you do some small researches on this site you may get surprized by the number of such "contestowners" who will jusy scumm you.
Business ethics!!! It doesnt matter this site and projects posted here are contest like...things such as the "standard business ways" still apply (if you really feel you are designer and your time is worth $ and not sume stupit comment of contest owner that has horrible taste). Me personaly i am one of the people highly rated on freelancing platforms with TON of experiences and my time is always...really always equal to some $ and i am frustrated by the number of times i need to let it out how actually should such systems run. Not here to offend the adminsitration or designer or contest owner...but the way this site works is just VERY UNETHICAL...i can list some URLs where you can check and find out what is the "official" name of the thing you designers do here but i think 1 only even is enouhg, see www.aiga.org (this site is the only official platform for designers to research for ethical practices).
Well...i hope all this will make some sense for all 3 parties (designers, contest owners and the 99site administration...pleae every party think for a moment and ask your self what are you doing here! My personal suggestions:
> designers: Is your time not valuable? dont you want to get payed for the time you spend or just waste time for something you even dont know it will be selected by the end? Do you wish to do FREE WORK for arrogant people who even doesnt know what is your job principals?...if your answer is "NO" to all this, then you should really think why you still here.
>99Designs administration: As stated early...great business model but you really need to have "strict" rules for both, designers and contest owners...contest owners must know how to act as professionals on your site and not think you offer them an designers army for free that they can ask for everything they want...atleast specify that is unethical request to let 100s of people to work on their stuff at the same time (talking about the contest owner asking for file modifications and new concept submissions before they ever select an contest winner...choose your designer and then ask only this designer whatever you want and as much you want changes adn new designs)...not fair to let ton of people work at 1 things and at the end only 1 get payed (if lucky). For designers, try to clear to this kids what is the meaning of "copy an idea"...suggest tothem to visit some resources where they can read and educate fast them selfs of the general online busines ethics so they are not like "a fish out of the water" front of the contest owners...its frustrating to see something like this:
> contest owner message:
Not nice...didnt like it, when i can see your other concept submissions? Maybe look to other designs i rated 3+ stars and try to do something like they did!> designer answer:
Sory sir...i'll try to do my best to meet your requirements, my other designs are on the way and will post them this evening!......EH?...is this now busines ethic?...do this guy pay the designer to feel so relaxed and ask for such things as it is common practice on 99site?
Alright, i feel i wsted enough time on here...just needed to let it out and maybe all 3 parties can grab something from this mesage for them selfs and consider it as good advice.
I am gone...Good Luck.

@the owner of this contest. Sorry for delights and my conversation here, but it's become the straw that broke the camels back so to say.
Thanks for continuing to promote 99designs.com and the budding designers that are out there.
@delight --maybe not the right place, but I hope that the owners/moderators of the site get the message and clarify the process to avoid future problems. I agree with everything you say, but in the end, it's really our own fault if you think about it. What does every pro say that we keep forgetting? Don't do work on spec. Wait.. let me repeat it.. Don't do work on spec!!
@the rest of the design community --your work, your ideas and your thoughts are worth something. A design isn't the 15 minutes is took you to crank it out, it's the hours, days and weeks of thought and research that goes into it. It's the experience and education. It's the tools you're using. Don't cheapen the media by allowing yourself to be exploited because of your willingness to please, a need for recognition, or money..
A good client will always recognize you for the quality -- not the quantity.

Tony G, that sort of design has been done time and time again. It's not an orginal idea, and I've seen the same sort of imagery all over the place. When people think 'green' they think up appropriate symbolism: leaves, the earth, the colour green, water, etc.
There is still a distinction between the two of them - they both still look completely different and unique even if it has a similar theme. No need to be quick to point the finger.

@perigryne (and all others who read this post)-- you are right about everything you say. I am also sory to "beeng forced by my instincts" to write and share this so open and probably come against the site TOS...but there is an reality on "the real world", i am fulltime freelancer providing services on world class marketplaces (open bidding style) where ALL providers are somewhat FIGHTING already against such systems (talking about services such as "free mockup libraries" such as this site. Not blaming 99site for anything but this site is nothing more than "free mock-up'ers factory" that produces more and more such people that we are all against and encourages this unethical trend and spread the planet with this trend. Designers with such platforms experiences are diving into professionals platforms to try their chances and starting to use the same way they "learn" and are "comfortable" with providing the buyers on profssional buyer-vendor marketplaces with such upfront and unpayed work thinking is an common practice. Many freelance platforms has already trict rules and kicking out members that offer such free ideas/concepts and is considered as unfair competition to the all other members. Same for buyers who state in their project requirements that mockup-sample draft/concept is required in order to be able to place bid on their project...such buyers projects get immediately rejected and the buyer is banned (including IP address) so that never again can come back to this platform.
...i hope 99site administration will consider this discussions and make an better platform with improved features. B/W...always remember that contest like project MUST have a lot better budgets than that since it is CONTEST...why buyers prefere to run a contest?, for sure to get best possible design, but then they must really grab deeper in the valet if they want it. Visit an design agency and say you want a logo design with unlimited concepts (like some of you guys here do...creating 10+ designs and submit them) and say you will pay 500 bugs for that...you will see how fast they will close the door to your face and tell you never again to come back. Thats why taking part on contest like job cant cost only $500 or whatever...the minimum award of such contests (talking only for an simple logo design) cant be under $2K...the administration should also consider this fact if they are planing to continue with this "business model". If i must be more honest...to me anything on this site seems its created only for the contest owners benefit...northing more!
Good Luck.
