- Brief Summary
-
A college educated, professional, black man faces a unique challenge as he bridges two worlds. In one, he must be smart and action-oriented, direct but not intimidating, and careful never to slip into ebonics or slang. In the other world he must be careful not to seem too "educated" and 'uppity', or act too "white", and should absolutely slip into ebonics or slang where appropriate. I want a shirt for that man, a shirt for me. The shirt says in effect, "I'm a black man, I'm educated, and I still got plenty of soul".

I think #33 rocks! It calls to mind the rebellion and insistance of keeping a black identity (no more "passing") while making a clear statement that education is power. Combining the two symbols speaks to the culture crossing which educated black men must do. I'd love to see elementary and middle school boys in my neighborhood schools wearing this shirt!

#6 Coming along nicely. I like the metaphorical contrast of setting the graduation cap low as if it were a ball cap you'd wear in the hood.

#7 is looking good! That's the kind of design that would leave a question mark in the head of a passerby, but get a nod from a passerby who knew the score.
