I'm a startup entrepreneur, angel investor and author of OnStartups.com -- a top-ranking blog about startups with over 10,000 subscribers.

I'm looking for a kick-butt logo that stands out, but is clean and professional. I'm selective. If you win, you not only get the cash, but I'll post a blog article about it giving you visibility.

    Could you tell us a bit more about what exactly you are looking for? Maybe choice of color, type of style, a symbols or elements that you like or dislike? etc...

    Don't Wants: A complicated logo that uses lots of detail, A logo that needs lots of colors to work, Something that is overly cliched (have that now with my current logo).

    I don't get it. You say you don't want a logo that uses a lot of colors or a cliche like your existing logo, yet you're giving high marks to designs that do just that.

    Apologies to everyone that commented on this thread here. This is my first project here, I didn't realize there was even this discussion at the "top level" (just thought there was discussion for individual submissions). Feeling a bit silly about that.

    I've gone back and given star ratings to most of the submissions and gone ahead and eliminated most of those submissions that are highly unlikely to win the contest.

    For hints on what I like and don't like, check out the submissions that have gotten 3+ star ratings. I basically want something simple and memorable (the concept itself should be easy). The reason certain designs that are more complicated have gotten positive ratings is that their underlying concept is simple and I think a simple version could be created.

    #6? =( why isn't the "O" in "on" the image? ---- god I hate meddling clients. I mean they are great businessmen but they obviously don't get "design" or "concept" --- they let their emotions get in the way.

    ohh i like "blue" or "pink" ---- BLAH!

    Congrats to Guru Branding for winning the contest!

    The runner-up (in my mind) was design #104 by Sean Farre. I'll be sending Sean an extra bonus of $95 because he had a couple of designs that were strong contenders.

    I think "OnStartups" changed it's company name during this intense logo contest. I think they like the "Mastermind generic puzzle" logo so much that they changed their names to "nStartups"....

    (Once again I didn't enter in this contest nor do I know anyone that entered. My opinion is only of a single person in a world of billions. And it is unbiased.)

    If it makes some of the participants feel better, the logo was picked mainly on "concept". The contest winner has agreed to make some final tweaks for the final version. Hopefully, we'll get it to a point that I don't have to change the company name to nStartups. :)

    Worst case, we'll put the "o" back and just move the visual element to the left (there's a variation that had that).

    Well I believe combining my concept with gurus and putting this new symbol to the left and keeping the onstartups.com would look best.. but then it would be unfair with the final prize money. lol.
