for the contest Contract programmer wants STRIKING logo!
Submitted design #2
my first submission. looking forward to your feedback.

another option
Both #2 and #3 :
- I want very subtle -- if any at all! -- color highlights on the head, if you use the existing one instead of stylizing it like #1. All but completely filled in with red and grey won't do it. Although if your point was to emphasize the grin, that's an excellent principle to work with.
- Not bad work with the fonts. Something I'd like to see is a lack of alignment -- the individual letters slightly off-angle to give a "being shaken" or "misaligned metal stamp" feeling.
#2: If we're going to go with head over geometric shapes, which is fine, we definitely need to have a white outline surrounding the head to clearly separate it. Go for a floating-over-in-#3D kind of vibe. And the text should probably flow more or less along a line following the shape's outline.
#3: If we're going to simply layer name and graphic, the graphic must be much larger than this -- there's nothing that says *all* the letters need to be readable! -- and either the graphic or the name should be in much lighter saturation to give a one in focus one out of focus feeling. I think I'd prefer a sharp head over soft defocused text, but if the other way looks good I'd consider that too.
So yeah, both of these ideas are worth developing further, but you *definitely* need to lose the red and gray fills.
And with #3 if you develop that further -- the length to height ratio of the text bounding box should match that of a standard business card. Indeed, if you actually added a bounding box/crop marks to show exactly how it would look when printed on a white business card, that would definitely make a favorable impression.

another rendition for ya!

and another, a bit more "grungy"

Heh, alright, that's some funny stuff there :)
I really had in mind a hardcore vibe not a cartoony vibe, but since I saw it and started chuckling immediately, there's obviously some merit to this approach. Let me do some focus group testing on this in the next couple days to see how other people react to it.
Only thing I'd like to change a little is that my eyes get drawn to the nose. Can we make it a little less prominent please? Other than that, well it's different, that's for sure :)

i was already drawing this before i received your feedback. i'll make the revisions. glad you got a kick out of the last one!

Just going wild here, arentcha? #24 is my favorite so far overall ... except that it's psychologically incorrect. It looks like it's facing down and to the left, which is a disapproving and dividing stance. Can we possibly flip/rotate it so it looks upward right facing which indicates openness and engagement? That, and a little highlight on the inside curve of the horns would be nice, the unrelieved black is a touch much right now I think. The text and the paint splatter, those are great.

based on your feedback. enjoy!
OK, that's perfect enough for competition purposes. Now I need to decide whether this or the ultra-stylized #28 is the direction I want to go with for sure before I ask either of you to put any more time in on this. (And besides, maybe somebody is preparing Something Totally Awesome™ for the last day of the scheduled competition...) So you can leave this for now, and if decide it's the winner we can talk more possible revisions after that, ok?
sounds good to me, although if you have more revisions I am fine doing them now. it's been fun working on this and your feedback is excellent compared to other contest holders on this site.
Nah, now that I've got two different directions I like enough to be satisfied with and a passle of other long shots, I think it's time to start getting some outside opinions and see how these designs affect people other than me before I decide who should spend more time on this.
Well, ok, one detail, I liked the way the red splashed on both sides of the face in #24 and it doesn't in #27. Flip that layer too, perhaps?

adjusted the red splot
Excellent, thank you. No further revisions necessary until I pick an actual winner once the contest runs out, this is quite sufficient for me to solicit other people's feedback with.

i know you said the last one was good enough for the time being, but i tend to get caught up in fun contests like this. anyway, here's another one I drew up.
Heh, no worries, if you're enjoying yourself :)
But this one doesn't grab me so much.
it's all good. it was just fun to draw. :) thanks for the fun contest.
