My submission for the header design for your blog borrows elements from the web sites you mentioned in the Brief. your silhouette is cropped on the right side to lend the feeling that you are "leaning in" to the page... it provides a sense of action. The rays emanating from this silhouette further that feeling and adds the impression of knowledge or enlightenment. The professionalism of the "Conservatory Guy" text grounds the blog as something that should be respected by visitors, while the "Renegade" evokes a feeling of the American Wild West.
My favorite part of this design, however, is the butterfly. It is intended to be a subtle hint towards the mystery blogger. Orange is the natural complement of blue, and the white spots on the butterflies wings are directly lifted from the Conservatory Outlet's logo.
Colors may easily be adjusted to suit your tastes.
