for the contest Eye-catching design needed
Submitted design #37
Hi Nigel,
Here's how I imagined it, hopefully you'll like at least something about it. :)
Any blocks of news, info, features, functions & images can easily be added on to the left (or right) column when needed, ether between the two blocks currently present, or even above or below them.
Please let me know if there's anything we can work on with this one. :)
Thanks, Mesko
Hi Mesko and thanks for a great entry.
There's not much I'd like you to change.
The Client login area should have a smaller, neater 'login' button and we don't need the 'forgot password' bit.
A couple of bits of text near the bottom don't look right. the font is slightly larger than the rest of the text and it doesn't look as nice.
Other than that it's fine.
Thanks again,
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
Thank you for your great feedback, I've made the changes you wanted to see, please let me know if there's anything else I can change or try to improve. If there's really nothing else, just say the word and I'll start working on the inner pages you mentioned in the brief. :)
Thanks again,
Mesko
Thanks Mesko.
I missed the slightly larger font at the bottom of the main section ('web design in cornwall etc').
You are definitely one of the front-runners but before you start on the inner pages, I'd like to see what this design would look like split 2/3rds left-column, 1/2 right column - to give more focus to the main section.
It might spoil the look and the impact but I'd like to see it before we dive into the inner pages.
Many thanks for some excellent work.

Hi Nigel,
Here's the version with the 2:1 column widths ratio as you wished. The right column is now a little longer than it used to be, so I used the new space on the left for another 'recent project', now there are two projects instead of one as you can see. Of course, the extra space can be used in any other way you prefer, so if you think some other content would be more useful, please let me know and I'll give my best to try and incorporate it in the design.
Another change that occurred to me was to move the 'Helping small business profit from the Internet' text to the right of the logo, since some more space was now available up there too.
Looking forward to see what you think of the changes I've made.
Thanks,
Mesko
Hi Mesko and thanks again.
Yes, the 2/3, 1/3 split looks even better. Everything else works very nicely.
Could you please try replacing the second, bottom project with a testimonial(s) section? I leave you to decide whether one or two works best.
You're definitely short-listed so you can start working on the About Us and Portfolio pages whenever you like.
Many thanks again,
Nigel
Thanks Nigel, I'm happy to see I made it to the short list.
I'll try to make the change to the homepage you suggested and submit it as soon as I can. I think I should have at least one of the inner pages ready for submission by the end of the day as well, if not both of them.
Kind regards,
Mesko
Thanks Mesko.
I look forward to seeing the change and the inner pages.

Hi Nigel,
I apologize for not posting sooner, I got caught up in another project last night and it took a little longer than I thought it would...
Anyway, this is my version of how your new portfolio page might look like. Same layout, with short descriptions of your recent projects on the left. The idea is to have another, 'project details' page, with a larger screen shot of the project homepage (and maybe some inner pages), and a detailed description of the requirements, process, client testimonials, and other facts that might be of interest to your new potential clients and let them know that you approach every single project with great care and a lot of enthusiasm. Of course, you can go with more than just 4 projects a page.
As for the right column, I went with the client testimonials, since I think there is really no better place for them than on the page your visitors come to get acquainted with your previous work and experience.
A couple of other changes to the general layout as well, as you can see I've added a tiny arrow above the 'current' page, and a thin black ribbon to the bottom of the footer to make it even more consistent with the marketing literature you provided.
Right now I'm working on the 'project details' page I mentioned, as well as the About Us page, I should be able to post them in an hour or so, please let me know of any changes you might want me to make.
Thanks,
Mesko
Hi Mesko, that's no problem.
This page looks really great and I like the minor enhancements you mentioned.
Looking forward to seeing the other two pages!

Thanks Nigel,
This is obviously my version of the About Us page, I think the graphics fit in perfectly with the rest of the design, but if you happen to disagree I can try and find some others. I'm not quite sure about the content on the right, so I left the testimonials for now (I'm wondering if the testimonials should be on the About Us page, or the Portfolio page, or why not both?) I also lowered it down a bit so it's inline with the main headline on the left, I think I should do that on the portfolio page as well.
I thought I'd wait with the 'project details' page until I see if you like the idea, now that I know you do it will be ready for submission later tonight (I'll be away for a couple of hours, hope you don't mind), along with the improved version of the home page (including minor changes introduced with the portfolio page and couple more), and any other changes you would like to see.
Thanks again,
Mesko
Thanks Mesko.
Any time you can provide the project details page is fine with us.
Excellent work!

Hi Nigel,
This would be my idea of a project details page. It turned out just a bit more tricky than I expected, since I had to think of a way to make the transition from left column to the right one and make them obviously connected. Then that tiny arrow pointing to the 'Project Facts' occurred to me, and I think it does a great job.
The idea of inner pages screen shots besides the home page one is to update the large one upon user click on any of the three small ones. It can be done with JavaScript or on the back end to change with or without page reload. I hope you don't mind me using the same home page screen shot instead of the inner ones.
Again, if you think any element on any of the pages could use some improvement please let me know and I'll be right on it.
Many thanks again for your wonderful feedback,
Mesko
Hi Mesko and thanks once again.
That looks superb. I can include this for each project that I want to use a 'case study' and where I have a client testimonial. It could work very well.
Beautiful design.
I don't have any changes in mind but might need a few tweaks if you win and we find some coding 'challenges'.
Many thanks,
Nigel
Thanks Nigel,
I wanted to post the home page with the minor improvements we discussed, but I had some problems with my connection at home so unfortunately I'm unable to do so. But no worries, it should be OK by the end of the day, so if you go on and decide that I should win I'm open to any further changes and tweaks to the designs you can think of.
About the coding, there are only a couple of 'tricky' parts I can think of (mainly the header and footer curves), but I already have some ideas for the CSS implementation and will be happy to share them with you if you feel you could use them.
Thanks a lot once again Nigel, it was a true pleasure making these designs and discussing them with you, I hope to work with you on their finalization if I win.
Kind regards,
Mesko
