I wanted to show you a variation. Although you specifically asked for a line drawing, maybe the filled areas also make it less cluttered, the signs and lines are more easily distinguished now from the skull drawing.

Much better but remove the text you now have over the axis completely. I can always add text and an arrow later. Also, remove the 3 arrows that went with the circles you pulled. I'm trying to unclutter the drawing.

So far, #8 is the closest to what we are looking for. The shading looks good and should print fine A few tweaks are in order though...
1. Remove the text below the axis / over the spine. I don't want the spine covered.
2. Remove some of the circles. If we count from outside to in. Remove circles 2, 3, and 4.
