- Brief Summary
-
If you like to be challenged, then this contest if for YOU! I need an amazingly original logo for my new Leadership Coaching Firm. Looking for a tight combination of a light bulb and stars that has a web 2.0 feel (gloss, 3d, gel, shine, etc). This will be the first of several needs and the winner could land a position on my design/branding committee! As Jay Z would say... "SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT..."

To everyone submitting entries, let me first say THANK YOU!
Just a heads up, the biggest issue I'm having with most entries is the light bulb. So far only one designer, BombardierBob has captured what I'm looking for. I'd like the bulb to look as real as possible. Perhaps this is my fault as I should have stated this in the brief. Just a heads up moving forward. Great work by all though, you all are truly talented!
Thanks,

Wow, after seeing #15 I have to say that is a cool idea placing the star as the filament but seeing Bob came up with that in his design first, #24, #27, #31 & #32 are stealing Bob's work design. The host suggested in brief a light bulb with stars coming out of it not the filament being a star. Just cause you might make it look better it is still violating copyright of Bob's design. This is not cool and I for one will report this violation and suggest Bob do the same. You call yourselves designers but theft of one's art concept...well that is illegal.

Thank you Silver for the private message to this mess. I am highly
upset over this infringement of my design work. The host made at no
time before my submission he wanted the star to be the filament in
the light bulb or at an angle with that combination or standing
straight up with that combination of that design elements.I have the right to be darn right upset over this. What gives a designer, and
designer the right to violate another's copyright? I am a very easy going person
and can be approached easily over my own work but this went beyond that. This gross
violation has sicken me. Once again thank you SilverLeaf for letting me know this. Now if anyone wants to negotiate PM me and we will see. I need to take a walk before
my blood pressure explodes or I wake my lawyer up.~Bob

Well coach johnson, seems we have some sour grapes here - so i'm withdrawing my entries and coming back with something else.
p.s. SilverleafArtist might want to read 99design's terms on defermation as it's taken just as seriously.

Actually I don't even know why I've removed my work as my design was the result of a direct request from Coach Johnson... and I quote:
"Would like to see the star yellow and glowing inside the bulb."

Please don´t use a tilted bulb with a star inside like my FIRST entry: #5 !!
Ha ha ha, the brief says "bulb with star". so, everybody need to use a bulb and a star. Just a great designer can make the difference with these 2 simple elements.
Good luck for all!
PD: Take it easy.

Host's own briefing;
"I’d like to see some incorporation of a light bulb and stars. One thought I have is to have stars bursting out of a lightbulb (symbolizes a star being born or growing from the power of thought leadership). Please note, I would like the light bulb to look as real as possible. Not a big fan of the cartoon looking bulbs."It doesn't say copy another designers work period!
Well after I send this Faq report to 99designs, Monday I will show you how the legal system works! When it is said and done we will see who laughs last and who ends up paying for it.

I am currently doing my own design for this contest. And for your info I went through college and can tell you through the course on ethics it covered copyrights very well to know and tell you that a derivative of an existing design constitutes infringement of said copyright. Good example of copyright and infringement case is Apple Computers vs Apple Corp. The host painted a different picture of what he wanted of a bulb having stars shooting out the bulb. Up to Bob's entry everyone had a bulb and a different approach but once Bob created his version you decided to copy that idea of the star as the filament and run with that and the angle.
You would do the same if someone jumped on and copied and took your design period.

Hi! Again, I had the "first idea" of put the star INSIDE de bulb and take it tilted to the right... yes, like the Bobs entry... but mine was the #5 and the others was #8 , #10 , #11, #15 and #17 .
also in the #8 Bob use a blue square with the bulb in white... yes, like MY #5
I did not say anything because this is a contest, and everybody can make a better design.Look at my new entries: #34 and #35 they are much better than the first ones! and without filament and useless details. For the people that are starting in the graphic design world: Less is more!! (check the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe biography! he was a genius of the spaces).
So, I am a proffesional designer (Licentiate in Graphic Design) with a Univerity diploma on my wall. I don´t need copy a design of another guy. I have won a lot of contest here (and I have a lot of clients arround the world).
Thanks for reading!
Bob: Please, dont send me agressive PMs any more. Thanks!

Note to all designers.
First of all, let me start off by saying a HUGE thank you to all of you for your time, effort, and work. I really appreciate every submission, whether it hits the mark or not, each submission has displayed great design skills.
Let me also apologize for my delayed response. I do realize the sense of urgency and concern here and wish to address it.
First off to Bob, make no doubt about it, your design is realized in my eyes as the most creative and original. I do understand your frustration and I am sorry the contest taken this turn. To try and alleviate this situation, I have made the decision that if the winning design utilizes a star-like filament, the winner must agree to split the prize with you, per your conscent. I see the lastest entry to this contest was thinking along my same lines. If you are not okay with this, please send me a PM and lets reason this out. Rest assured, your design remains in my top two at the moment. I am writting this here to you vs. in a PM because I want to be as transparent as possible with all contestants.
To everyone else, I see Bob's point of view and while I can't say he was the only one to think of the concept, he was clearly the first to display it. I challenge you all to continue with your submissions and think outside the box with new designs.
I apologize for any tension I may have created as the host, and hope the contest will run its course in peace and with great work.
Please reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.

Logo Scoreboard.
In hopes of being as objective and transparent as possible with you all, I wanted to provide a "current standings" if you will on the logos. I'm doing this to give everyone an idea of where my mind is. While there is not one logo that is perfect just yet, if I absolutely had to rank the current submissions I would do so as follows.
1) #40 and #38 (same design just different bg colors)
2) #17 and #15 (same design just different bg colors)
3) #24
4) #34
5) #21I have eliminated all other designs. I don't want to mislead others by keeping them around if I am not giving them high consideration as I am with this top 5 list. Out of 33 entries, designers on this top 5 list have alot to be proud of!
If any of you need more detailed feedback, or have questions/comments/concerns, please speak out here or via PM.
Thanks and happy designing,

Silver, I know how you feel. I had the same issue awhile back on anther site, I created fan based meshes from several shows for free and had them posted on scifi-meshes.com and some jerk used them and sold several hundred posters on crestock before I found out and the guy just got banned from there.
Your right about the trace it's not on 10 but only in the latest version of illustrator CS series.
For several years I used Illustrator 10 and recently upgraded to CS3 but I find trace more clunky then what you created Silver. Still a good design.~Bob

Thanks Bob for the support, I think I will eventually upgrade to CS but don't want the money to do it yet when I have something that works perfect for me. Is CS harder then 10 and is there anything worth it to upgrade to?

Looks like this contest has created quite a stir. Again I appreciate the hard work all of you have put forth. I not savvy enough from a design standpoint to be able to tell what's traced vs. freehand, but all entries have looked great regardless.
So long as the description in the brief is met, our firm will be happy. We also need to be able to expand the logos for use on banners. I have a creative guru who will inspect the final images to ensure it works well in the future.
How long have all of you been designing and what do you like most about 99 Designs? I'm a first time user but this has been great experience in large part thanks to all of you!

I just wanted to take a moment to come on here and say a huge THANK YOU to EVERY designer who submitted work for this contest. This was not an easy decision for me or my advisory board. All of you have great talent and skill and I can not be happier with the turn out and competition.
Silver, Rofe, Bob, Pegastinas, you four in particular did a GREAT job with entry after entry and I hope to see you all in my future contest, as well as contest of my friends. I will be suggesting you all to them. GREAT WORK!
Pegastinas, great work on the text. It was just tough to pass up the bulb work of Silver and Rofe. I'm sure you will do very well in future contest here.
Bob, thank you for allowing others to build off of YOUR original idea. I have not lost sight of that and thank you for setting the bar high in this competition.
Rofe, thank you for not giving up when we all thought Silver's logo was the one and only. The web 2.0 feel that a key partner felt your design brought to life is what made the decision to go with your bulb as well happen. Congrats!
Silver, where do I start. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You are the epitome of what CUSTOMER SERVICE is all about. You made revision after revision in a timely fashion. You not once complained when you had many reasons to curse my name as the host. I look forward to truly doing business with you both here at 99 designs and directly. Congrats on winning the contest outright!
It has been a pleasure and I can't wait to do this again! I hope my feedback along the way has been appreciated and objective enough to help you all as designers.

Thank you for the kind words, I was brought up to be open and upfront in any venture I partook upon. Bob has ben a great help on here more then most realize as this is the second time he has contributed something to me and my work on here. My first win on here was because of a graphic element he created and sent to me to get my design further for the win and on my second win he approached me and said after looking out for my new friend the use of his design concept before he opened it up to the rest of the contest holders. He is a good guy once you get to know him as it seems and once again Bob thank you!
