Here's what I've got so far. It's an idea based on the shield (strength, reliability, etc) you mentioned, and is pretty self explanatory. I don't have much more time to work on it tonight, as I've got to be at work early tomorrow, but if chosen, I will be able to show you what it would look like on business cards, letterheads, etc, and even create those for you as well.
*Note: One reason I stayed away from the wings idea is that, although it sounds good and looks good on a standalone logo, my experience with protrusions from logos like that tend to not work well with print, especially letterheads and envelopes. It can work, but it usually loses the sense of balance that's obtained when the logo is presented alone and centered on a canvas. :)
