In regards to Western Union... if the design i like has to be paid via Western Union then i will do it. It is not a preferred method.

I would like to emphasize the following. "If you are a designer, and can't create the quality found on cssremix.com. Please do not bother entering." This doesn't apply to everyone obviously but keep that in mind.

Hello, You may want to clarify what you want as the designs that I have seen eliminated are following the instructions/guidelines that have given. the feedback you have been providing is too general and not helpful.

I don't have any feedback, for you Joanne. I am trying to be as nice as possible when i say if you aren't able to create quality design then do not submit.
For a broad sense of quality visit cssremix.com and look at some of the sites, or look at my brief and view the sites i like.

"For a broad sense of quality visit cssremix.com and look at some of the sites, or look at my brief and view the sites i like."
- I think therein lies the whole problem. I am not saying that my submission, or any of them, were what you were looking for - but I think that's just it. Every recommendation given is a "broad" sense of what you are looking for - but lacking specifics. If you look at the examples on cssremix.com, there is actually A LOT of variety on there. It seems as though you like the web 2.0 style, but that encompasses a wide variety of different things. With that said - I think it would be helpful, not just to those who contributed designs already, but also for yourself, and future prospective designers, if you would go through the submitted designs and say specifically what it is that you dont like about it, what you DO like about it, and where it differs from what you ARE looking for.

Reply to brianm.cc: commonsense, unfortunately not everyone has it. not everyones submissions have sucked, simply not the quality and style im looking for.
In reply to ikikitwitninjas: Read the brief for sites i like, maybe this will help you out a bit. If i knew exactly what i wanted i would have hired a firm to do it, for $1000 i was hoping to get some good submissions.

I love this site; my only little complaint is the content layout.http://www.toggle.uk.com/
Colors, content layouthttp://www.rakacreative.com/index.php
classy, i like multiple pages on the site including the content layoutshttp://www.evaneckard.com/
Like the site in general including colors. -

Question: "How does someone know if they suck or not?" - very few people "suck" at design as long as they have put alot of effort, thought and research into the design. This is where thinkcrawley is going wrong (this is my opinion). Everyone should keep in mind that every person has there own style and what they would like. What one person likes, may not be what another likes, that does not mean that the eliminated ones "suck".
Thinkcrawley, I really think that you would get designs more to you liking if you were more specific in your instructions and feedback. We are all drawing at straws. cssremix has so many varied designs that it is difficult to realize what it is you are really looking for.
Many have followed the layout of your example sites but that doesn't seem to be what you want.Lastly, Positive feedback is much better than negative feedback. Constructive criticism gets more results.
I have no plans to submit another design however if I were, it would be nice to have the constructive feedback for each of the designs to follow in addition to the guidelines.
Also, I really hope that it is your intent to choose a design and not use these great ideas to run with after the contest ends as others have done. Keep in mind that the majority of people here are serious about this and put alot of hard-work and thought into their designs.

Again ... "If you are a designer, and can't create the quality found on cssremix.com. Please do not bother entering."
Quality... not style.. not exactly what i am looking for, but Quality.
If very few people suck, then very few people are good and creative designers.
1. "Lastly, Positive feedback is much better than negative feedback. Constructive criticism gets more results."
I agree, but when there is nothing to give feedback on then its best to give non at all.
2. "I have no plans to submit another design"
Alright
3. Also, I really hope that it is your intent to choose a design and not use these great ideas to run with after the contest ends as others have done.
There has yet to be a great idea, im not paying $1000 for something that isn't worth it. Lets hope i start seeing some things.

After looking through the numerous design i would like to comment on some things.
1. Please try to use blues in your designs, and not necessarily and over abundance of light and sky blues.
2. I'm really leaning away from sharp designs/boxes, i would like to see more smooth rounded but nothing like entry #10 in regards to rounded it is way to much. -

I would love to participate in this contest but due to Finals I cannot (very time consuming to bang this one out). However, I have been keeping an eye on the contest to see what is happening and happen to stumble on a few 'heated' comments and would like to put my 2-cents in.
Joanne: A lot of people 'suck' at graphic design, even though I hate the term suck, they do. If you want to argue how even a 3-year old's art work doesn't suck because 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' the so be it. But in graphic design there is an art to being good, not saying I am, but there is. Looking at your website I wouldn't say it sucks but I wouldn't say it is good. Take the menu bar for example - it isn't sharp, looks low quality and a simple form of a Bevel and Emboss with text on it. Overall there isn't a lot to the site, I like the top but take out the thinkNetwerk top and the menu bar and the site can pretty much be created with simple HTML code - hence the "design" is not only not good, but non existent without the top half.
What I would change? Make title backgrounds and text area backgrounds (just like he said, smooth/round but not too smooth like #10). Work more with layers, fullscreen websites need more background layers or areas like in #18 or even #20. Implement some sort of bottom to your site.
I understand a lot of hard work goes into a design - even the one you created must of taken a lot of time and effort, but he was specific enough to explain what he wanted and even gave many good examples which in my opinion yours didn't even follow. Like he said, he wouldn't be here if he knew what he wanted and as a designer you should love when a client gives you the sky as the limit - otherwise it wouldn't be called design, it would be building.
The reason why I was so compelled to write this is because you had to take a stab at crawley about taking the site and running. Offside in my opinion - 1000$ is a lot for a template, it sure is going to take a lot for one to be worth it.

@Braveheart4: I feel the same way. The logo is the branding of the company name and I draw alot of inspiration from the logo. The style, colors, and shape are just a few of the elements of the logo I draw upon for inspiration. By the way, I have seen some of your latest designs and they are beautiful.

In regards to the comments on the contest holder's broad sense of description for what he/she wants. The whole purpose of crowd-sourcing is to get a variety of different styles. The quality should come as a first language, so it's sad for a contest holder to even have to ask for it, but it needs asked for a large portion (not all) contest holders do not necessarily mind a lower quality. Whether this is simply because they need quick work, don't have a great art-eye, or have the 'beauty in the eye of the beholder' concept, is irrelevant. The contest holder of this specific contest wants the designers to show their creativity to the fullest. Rather than offer specific details which would limit some designer's creativity, he/she has let everyone do what they think is best.
If you are a good designer, then you'll know what quality the contest holder is looking for when listing the sites he/she has. In a general explanation; Quality is crisp, good typography, well organized, non-repetitive, color coordination, good techniques/style, and good color choice (not too bright, not too pale).
I'll be frank, I've been designing for about 7 years now, and there's only about 100 designers that I know of on the web (deviantart, css websites such as cssremix, 99designs, etc.) that really show what quality means in a design sense.

I feel that the contest holder is being quite fair. He is trying to help those designers who 'suck' by not having them waste their time on the contest when they will probably not even have a chance of being considered. When I first discovered sitepoint I was surprised at the level - quite low of alot of the web page designs. The CH is only asking for quality, he has high standards and he wants a website that will attract customers - arguing won't change how good a designer you are.

-True it is rare, but it is possible to find good designers. If i knew exactly what i wanted i would have taken this to one of several designers i find exceptional and payed them upfront knowing that they would produce exactly what i was looking for.

I believe you shouldn't either as you would be prone to being sued as you have obviously copied this template http://ev1lk1ng.deviantart.com/art/Minimalistic-deisgn-3-82804647

While I feel bad for all of you who submitted several designs to this contest, it shouldn't have been hard to figure out that this was a sham right after the first few posts. Dude obviously had no intentions of selecting a winner. I'd keep an eye on his site though, for all who contributed, just to make sure that he doesn't just rip off all of your great designs.

Thinkcrawley, I think it's a real shame that you passed up some of the seriously impressive entries this contest has had. I imagine your decision hasn't made you a lot of friends around these parts.

My job is to run a business, not to make friends on 99designs. Thanks for your concern.
