Brief Summary

A new logo for the rebranding of my web solutions studio. Needs a grungy effect to emit a no-nonsense attitude. Font is very important here and should be considered carefully as I expect it to be the prominent design element. Vector formats required from the winner - either PSD or AI.

  4. You are correct. I would like the tagline to read "Online Solutions Studio". I am an applications developer and not a designer, hnece the tagline and, hence me needing to run this contest!

  5. I should also mention that the case of the lettering is purely up to the designer. Just because I write "Berserk Design" doesn't mean that it cant read as "berserk design" or "BERSERK DESIGN" or "BerSeRK DesIGn". I think you get the point.

    I see some designers are already being creative with this already. Great stuff!

  7. Hi all. I am still interested in examining any new concepts as a decision has not been made yet. In particular I would love updates from those that I left specific feedback for.

    Things have slowed down significantly and I might call an early end to the contest if this low level of activity remains.

    I will be sure to put out a last call before I do anything concrete.

  8. CH you should check out Dafont.com and make sure that these grunge fonts aren't only free for personal use fonts. i am pretty sure a few of the remaining designs are and you would then need permission of the font designer before you use them

  11. Come on people, create your own crap. Downloading a font and typing out the name of a company with it isn't designing. At least #52 was a little more creatively used but #53 is a blatant no effort entry.

  12. I appreciate the heads-up on this.

    Obviously it is very hard to monitor the entirety of the internet for examples of copyright infringement and I certainly would like to distance myself from any possible issues that could arise in that area.

    I appreciate that 'true' designers can get offended by impostors in this type of forum as I am sure that the contest holder does not always appreciate the extra effort that goes into a truly original design. xxDantexx will not be winning this contest but he has obviously won many others as he has a keen eye for style and presentation even if his means aren't always entirely original.

    I guess this is the nature of the beast.

  14. wow jayhem. i had a high opinion of you after you yelled at that guy to "Create his own crap". It's too bad you aren't practicing what you preach. What happened? Did you see that palmateer got 5 stars to your 4 so you had to copy his typeface exactly? Amazing how you latest concept looks so much more like his and nothing like any of your previous concepts. In your own words:

  15. i agree Firemisu. looks like Jayhem Designs is out to do whatever underhanded thing he can do, including copying palmeater to win. I honestly thought that was a revision to palmeater's logo when i first saw it. instead it's just a blatant copy. maybe there arent the exact same typeface but they are damn close. don't worry i am sure the CH will recognize this. as you said, none of Jayhem Designs earlier entries have this feel to them. amazingly all of palmeater's entries look like this. a little copying? i think so.

  16. I appreciate the input... but it would hold a lot more sway coming from the offended designer himself.

    If Palmateer sees no need to get involved I am not sure why two others who haven't contributed to the contest are so concerned by what is going in. I am more than capable of making decisions based on merit and not being swayed by hollow shouts from onlookers.

    For what it's worth, I see no problem with designers recognising the desires of the contest holder as the contest goes on and modifying their approach as they see fit. After all - pleasing the contest holder is the key to success here.

    In this instance I can see a resemblance but not enough to convince me to eliminate an entry.

  17. hey you guys. thanks for sticking up for me. i woke up a little while ago and i must admit that i was surprised to see a design so similar to my own up here. that's the way this site works though. there have been several contests that i have entered where this sort of thing has happened. I guess I am just used to people mimicking myself and others. I try not to do it myself because I feel it is unethical, but I can't control others. Steve Burman has a point in saying that we should recognize the desires of the contest holder. if he doesn't think Jayhem's design is copying me, then he should allow it to remain in the competition. i guess I just realize that this sort of thing happens a lot on this site and until 99 designs appoints some sort of moderator to enforce things, it will keep happening and no one can do anything about it. good luck to all in this competition (and in all of them for that matter) and may the best design win. thanks again!

  18. wow. i didnt expect that. I have removed the entry. My apologize to palmateer, if you felt I was copying you.

    In my defense I must say that the general idea of it was to do exactly what a competition is about. Design something you feel the CH is looking for. To be honest, I did incorporate ideas from each and every remaining design, because I felt the CH might like to see them in a slightly different variation that wasnt being shown. The point was I want to give the CH a version that I felt was much more refined than any of the other versions.

    I will take the time to explain what I saw from the remaining designs and what I felt could have improved.

    Palmateer's - The Arial Black typeface is a great look with grunge effects. In my opinion though the grunge texture need improvement. I disliked the word "design" written backwards and being just as dominant to the word "berserk". It said 'Online Solutions' w/o the 'Studio'.

    Glyphica - The balance is great. I like the smaller "Design" left aligned to "Berserk". I didnt care for the way "O.S.S" was written out though. Also the colors and texture I felt were taking away from the layout.

    HappyCitrus - I really enjoyed the texture on this. It looked much cleaner than the other ones. Some things I didnt care for were the font selection and the colors. I did like the layout of the whole thing, which is slightly similar to Glyphica's just reversed. It has great balance.

    Pretty much I took those ideas and created something I felt worked better. I was not trying to rip anyone off. I was just trying to create something that the CH might have been missing from past designs(Including my own). I didnt know that once you submit an entry you couldnt change your style in regards to what you feel the CH is looking for.

    Anyhow, the design is removed. My apologize again. I may have walked to close to the edge on this one and I will be much more cautious next time. Best of luck everyone. All the designs are great.

    I admit I felt it was extremely similar. If you read my post however I never asked you to take it down. Like I said, it is completely up to the contest holder to determine what is best for them. As for my typeface I just wanted to let you know it's not Arial. Arial is a rip off by Microsoft of Helvetica. Never accuse me of using Arial again! :)

    In defense of my design, if you look up the definition of Berserk, you see that it can mean wild and unrestrained, hence why i layed out the word Design backwards. I submitted another version this morning with less emphasis on the word Design and the contest holder stated that he liked my previous version better. thanks for the constructive criticism though. it's always appreciated.

  21. Thank you to all the late entries who I have not given individual feedback too. Each and every one helped me question my decision making process and I assure you that the decision was not made lightly.

    Overall the logo designs I received in this contest far exceeded my expectations and all designers should be highly commended for contributing to the process.

    As for the winner...

    Throughout the whole contest one design stuck in my mind due to its simplicity and adherence to my described brief. Originally entered as design #1 it has evolved ever so slightly to something a little better each time. In the end I have gone the safer option of #75 as opposed to #74 (a design which I have loved through all the incarnations). Ultimately it came down to readability for the consumer and #75 was a little simpler to read for those who didn't already know the company name.

    Congratulation to palmateer. I will be in contact via PM to arrange payment and handover details.

    And thanks again to everyone. I had a blast personally, and I hope it was a fun project to work on for you all.
