Submitted design #9
I didn't know that just Jason is the owner of the website so I wanted to give you enough space for photos, that's why I had four squares. Anyway I took out 3 of them. And also I stretched the flash placeholder image.
See if you like it more. -

Great... thank you for all your revisions! I think this is reading much better overall. The spiral bound graphic is a nice detail.
On the side bar, please give 'Behind our Products' more room. Either move the text to the right or the spiral binding to the left and then move the right edge of the text column to the left as well. The image of the owner should not be squashed. Please crop or mask it to fit the area while keeping the original proportions. I'm not sure what you have in mind for the four squares as the same line of text is repeated three times. Could you flesh that out a little more?
Please stretch the flash placeholder image to fit the space. We know it's going to look grainy but I think the seams are more distracting...
Thanks again for all your great work!

Thanks for your entry! Overall I like the colors and layout. Could you integrate the flash placeholder into the rest of the layout? It is far too bright for its size, making it the focal point of the design. You might try the luminosity blending mode for that element. Don't worry about scaling the comp images up to fit an area -we'll purchase the high res images for the winning entry but we can't show our client this design with the seam being so obvious.
Couple other issues with this as is... Please number the product images in sequence from 1 to 7. There should only be one menu item for 'Our Creative Process.' There shouldn't be three images of the owner and I'd like to see one of the paper backgrounds used on the side bar coming out from underneath the product image bar. It doesn't necessarily have to extend from top to bottom - as it would be ok to see the bottom of the paper. OR make the content background a lighter tan -almost as light as the logo and tag line text color to improve the contrast for reading the copy- and keep the side bar background color as is. Then, use one of the open book images to break out of the side bar and place the owner's image on one of the pages and text on the other page. The text could be 'Behind Our Products' or the 'If you can live it, we can write it...' If that doesn't fit well, dropping the first line would be fine - so the text would be 'We write it, We Design it...' like you have it below the content.
Make the content column a bit more narrow (20-30px) to accommodate the side bar background and give the text more room. Then move the 800 number over to the left so it remains aligned left with the copy.
This is a great start and I really like where it's going! In general, we'd like to have one or two elements that break the grid and add depth. Integrating one of the scrolls maybe behind the page header or in the upper right corner of the content area would be a great too. The multiply blending mode will quickly knock out the white and then adjusting the opacity to say 20% should work well. Thanks so much - hope this isn't too confusing!
