Probably some do it - and only go to us when they are more swamped :)...I've seen it happen.

Sorry MATPAC, but your post #24 wasn't very clear to me. I did read what the contest holder said about picking a winner himself if his client could not make up his mind, but I still think it would make no sense to do this. Why would the CH purchase a design if his clients his going to choose another one from this same contest afterwards? If later on the CH decide to buy a design because his clients flicked out, well that would be very nice of him even though, as far as I know, he has no obligation to do this. I'm pretty sure this is what the CH meant, but yet again, I might be wrong.
I totally agree with you regarding the fact that CH holding contest here can get quality work for pretty cheap. When you think that sometimes CH do add second prize for $25. Huh... I'm just not sure how I would feel if my work was to be picked for such little money. Yet, it's better than nothing... is it really!?
I've only been entering contest here for about a month. But, as a graphic designer I'm starting to think that this is the most stupid thing I could have done. In my opinion, it only helps lower our prices and drive clients away to enter contest instead of contacting us for direct hire. When you see that some CH hold a new contest every month or two! Don't you think that they could have picked a few designer that they like and respect and directly contract with them when they need to?
Anyways, I'm just as frustrated as you are (if not more) about the way things are working. Who's fault is it? Of course CH could offer more money... CH could give more feedback... SitePoint could do this or that... clients could pick up designs faster... but ultimately, we are the one entering the contests. We know the rules, we know how things work, and I think we can only blame ourselves if anyone is to blame.

cyberbrain, at no point did I say the CH was scamming. About your point that it would make little sense for him to pick a winner before his client chose one - well - read what he said, those were his words not mine! (see post 21)
The CH pm'ed me which was good of him.
I just feel that because the majority of people who submit entries to the contests, do it for free, that they deserve for the CH to be completely up front.
And although I understand that the CH's clients may be messing him around, at the end of the day, he is kinda our client.
My criticism is more generally about contest holders I guess (SO I'M NOT SINGLING THIS CONTEST HOLDER). I know that if I was running a contest, I'd be giving leaving feedback for designers twice a day at least, and when I say that I have shortlisted (and will select from those in a few days) then I would. If I had any doubt that I couldn't fulfill that promise, then I wouldn't make it :-)
Again I'm not singling out this contest holder. It happens so often here. I think that contest holders need to treat this a bit more professionally, and understand that they are getting an army of designers submitting stuff, only to have to pay one $100-200. Now that's a bargain for them. If they were to do this through an agency, feedback and payment, and deadlines would have to be stuck to, so why not in these contests?
I've only been submitting here for a short while, before I would often just look at the logos people were designing for interest - and there is some great stuff here (a lot of crap too - some of it mine ;-)
Again nothing personal to this contest holder.

I understand everybody's concerns here. As I told the 6 finalist ( these are them - http://ksa.creativesciencelabs.com) I will tell all of you. My client is an accountant and tax season here in the US has just begun. My client has been really pressed for time these past few weeks and does not want to make a hasty decision on something that they plan to use permanently. Its a huge investment when you think of all the things that need to be branded with a logo.
I myself being a designer also know what its like have the carrot held over your so that you chase it to no. I assure you that this is not the case. I promise to keep everybody informed and post the results as soon as I know.
I hope you understand and if you have any further questions please feel free to message me.

MATPAC, the CH said he was waiting on his client to make a choice. It would make very little sense for him to pick a winner before then.
The way the CH is conducting this contest seems pretty fine to me. If he was scamming us, he would do what happen in many contests... run away without giving any news. Or may be this one is smarter than the rest!? ;o)

... Also I just saw what you wrote in 'post 23 above'... "I promise to have one of these logos chosen as the winner within the next couple of days."

How come the contest is open again with 13 days left?
Didn't you say... "I swear I am not scamming. If my client does not pick a winner soon I promise to go ahead and pick the winner myself."
