here's my entry, I pretty much tried to follow your guidelines with a few changes. I also added a simplified version.
Regarding design #2
Looks good. So far I think you are the closest to what is needed.
Couple notes:
1. Should have some land, oceans, and clouds. It is alright if they are just faint and the idea is there, but some representation is needed.
2. The globe should be much larger in relation to the text. For this logo the text is secondary.
3. Try rotating the ribbon/arrow/chain so that it is at the same angle as the globe.
4. I think when making the globe much larger you will be able to add more depth and detail to the chain to make it look more realistic. Also it should be metallic.
