As the description stated this logo has been created taking in mind the current colour scheme of your website. As you said the community is based in Britain. Therefore I possitioned the dog's leg to point at the "In" of the logo. The colour I chose to be blue with a little gradient, because it gives a natural balance with the text string of the logo. The same blue colour with a gradient is applied on the word "BRITAIN". For the "DOGS In" I used the ogange scheme from the website. The reason to use the gradient is because it is already applied on your website. Like this the logo flows with the website. And at the same time makes it look "alive", but not just a flat picture on the website.
As you can see the logo can be also used in mono colours.

The font I used for "DOGS In" is arial black, 30 px. For the "BRITAIN" I used Century Gothic, 37 px. On the both a drop shodow filter is applied.

The last thing I want to mention is the slogan "a british dog owner community". I chose to use it for two reasons. First of all because it gives a full recognition in the user what the website is all about and second because it makes the whole logo finished.

    Hope you like it!!
