Regarding design #24
the other thing to think about sowen is that we have a scroll wheel so the user activity is pretty much exclusively vertical. I like the innovative placement of the menu items just not sure it would be practical for us. A drop down menu is in the cards

yeah nice sowen. you have the orientation wrong. It is 3 in wide and 2 tall. wonder what that would do to the look. I suspect make the cover flow approach look a bit less cramped

Here is another stab at it.
As the user scrolls through each email extended details show in the preview pane at the bottom of the screen. Total number of emails in the inbox and total unread emails shown in the inbox 'tab'. -

Thanks for the feedback! I'll take another pass over the concept. Just to clarify, is the screen orientation landscape or portrait (or both)

Sowen,
thank you for your entry. we have no intention of deploying to a touch screen device. thinking more up / down scroll wheel focused on email functionalty. I like the use of space and the clarity of text over background. I am not wild about the black and shades of grey. rather dour. we are looking for something a little more upbeat. I do like the way the menu is overlayed on the background -- good use of space for a small screen. Striking how much Fred Wilson looks like George Clooney., -

I have attempted to make the design ‘finger friendly' should the application be deployed to touch screen devices.
All feedback welcomed.
