for the contest UI sketch for mobile email application
Submitted design #1
This is an early draft to show a basic idea (some "key" elements are missing). It would be realy helpful if you could provide some details about the OS target platform and its specifications (if we need to keep some spaces already reserved by the OS). Screen orientation/resolution is also important to now. Then I will be able to provide a more accurate sample.
Regarding design #1
For this sample, I used the basic Symbian S60 screen resolution (352x416) while OS menu and soft/hard keys reserved spaces is an issue to consider.
Regarding design #1
Apologies for lack of clarity. We have 100% control over the UI -- there is no smartphone OS. Our app totally takes over the device and there is no "mandatory" UI stuff.
Display: Color, backlit, 32K colors, 320 x 240 pixels, approximately 1.25 inch x 2.5 inch

Thanks for clarifying this. One more question: UI has to be flexible when the user turns its screen orientation (portrait/landscape modes)? If yes, it would be helpful to know.
Regarding design #1
And another question: The end user will use a stylus or a touch screen too? In case of a touch screen (like iphone) we need to avoid very small handlers and controls (buttons, scrollers etc).

This is a more detailed sample set. I have placed the menu to pop out if the user click the current screen title (see the arrow). Current date (which is always important) and environment indicators are at the top right "screen-like" place holder. Let me know if you need different color schemes or layout and I will be happy to provide them along with more screens (according to the pdf samples).
Regarding design #1
the display screen orientation will not change and it will not be a touch screen. there will be a scroll wheel and click to select ala blackberry

also, please think about brighter more feminine-skewed colors.

Hello Oxygen,
I hope you have seen my comments on your second posting. I like what you are after here. I like the drop down menu as an overlay, it is a good use of real estate. I like your choice of fonts. Please resubmit something with brighter colors. I would rather seen the green as a main color and some other color as secondary.
Regarding design #3
Thank you for the feedback. I will submit a revised version - color changes included - and some new screens for you to have a wider view.
Submitted design #14
Here is the revised set of screens with more vivid colors and an additional sample screen for email compose function. Of course, some details can be changed or added later (convert action buttons to icons, or place extra submenus for function related options etc).

yeah I really like this oxygen. thanks for the submission. I am not wild about the green brown/copper combo but it is a minor thing. I like your use of shading. am trying to decide if the banner icons are almost too subtle. I also like the rounded edges on things. gives it a soft feel.
Regarding design #14
Color combination as you already said is something easy to change. At the time of the real UI design, specifications will also decide details like "rounded edges or not" etc (round edges require anti-alias for graphics, and depends on the application spec if PNG images can be used).
The date/status place holder can also have this color or another and this will probably make icons more "visible" (afterwards the whole icon set is a little project by itself). I will post another color scheme to see what I mean. Thank you very much for your feedback. It is always helpful for us.

Another color scheme, based in blue.
Submitted design #28
Another color combo (lighter green) with a few shading changes.

real nice oxy. thanks
