for the contest The UK Hotel Network - New logo/banner - and button

I like the 'UK' here - very bold and direct. Don't like the 'cut-out' effect used for 'HOTEL' though. Nor the British flag 'O'. Makes the overall design less impressive.
But I do like the 'UK' you've designed. Can you somehow integrate part of the British flag with the 'UK' - and just leave 'Hotel' and 'Network' in a one-cloured font? Thanks.

Quite like what you have done with the 'UK' in the last example. Still doesn't give me a feeling of class/elegance though.
Thanks.

Interesting use of the flag and the 'K'. But still doesn't give me a feeling of style/elegance.
Thanks.

Wow. I like it.
Is it possible to do the same but:
Using a white icon (on a white background?) Drop shadow might make this possible.
This would mean the text disppears. But, sorry, although I am really impressed with the 'UK' logo, I much prefer the 'half-flag' design from ruther. Although I'd like to see the text in a 'gold' style (but not TOO embossed). The reason being that we are creating a button from the logo, and this button will be shown on hotelier's own websites. And they're a picky lot.
Not too sure what the procedure is when two designers have submitted seperate elements which when combined will make a finished design. No option of awarding two prizes (unless you are both willing to accept $100).
Excellent work from you both.

Meant to add: I'm no longer looking for the 'reflection' effect ruther has on his text.

Tag is perfect in white. And the placement you have used in the example is exacyly how I saw it. And the gold effect on the text is good. Maybe slightly too '3-d' - but next suggestion will fix this. Drop 'The', make the half-flag twice as long so that it fills the top line, put 'UK Hotel' on the next line, put 'Network' on the line below. Flag and taxt should all be aligned (so font sixe for 'Network' will be smaller than for 'UK Hotel'. Now no need to worry about button as in original contest brief.
Cheers. :)

Speeling is atrocious today ;-)

Don't worry about buttons now. Thanks.

Nearly perfect now. I know I said I didn't want the 'reflection' but:
I think the design would look better if there was a bit more white space on either side of the flag/text. Maybe 50% more than what is there now. This would mean making the flag/text slightly smaller. The downside of doing this, is that suddenly you have a lot of whitespace above/below the logo. Now if there was a very subtle reflection (a lot less than ruther used) this would fill the space, or give the impression of filling the space.
But apart from that, the rest is perfect. Nice font, nice colour. Thanks again.

Hi,
At first I thought "Oh no - it's too much" (the one on the right), but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Also prefer the simple line below, rather than the reflected text - which I feel is overdone now, and whereas it was innovative and exciting at one point, it is now associated with lack of innovation (because it is so ubiquitous).
The gold edging also gives more an impression of class - but is not overstated. I like it.
Thanks again. PM on its way.

Still prefer the 'half flag' and the font is maybe too 'busy' - prefer something simpler. But background tag is perfect now - no need to change it.
Cheers.

Having said that, the full flag will not be as similar as other entries. So perhaps it might be good enough. Still not too sure about the font used here though. Dimensions are good.
Regarding design #43
I knew there was something about the flag that just didn't look right. The bottom half is fine, but the thin red stripes on the upper half are in the wrong place. Easily rectified - just split the flag, and flip the top half on a vertical axis. But the more I see this the more I like it.
Thanks.

Perfect. Very impressed with the gold coloured logo too. Thanks.

Congratulations J&R2. A winning design.
Final modifications: can you get rid of the background colours, make the background transparent (so that I can sit the logo on any colour/shade of background), angle the logo slightly, as in 2 of your earlier examples, and produce a 'silver' and 'bronze' version too ('standard' and 'gold' are as above). Silver version should have 'silver' colour border, but 'bronze bversion can simply use the same border colour as the 'gold' here - so no change needed.
Don't worry about animation as offered. Will consider for later.
Thanks.
Special thanks, and sincere apologies, go to ruther. I really liked your 'half-flag' concept. But in hindsight, it would seem that I was wrong to suggest/solicit collaboration without offering the full prize money to both you and J&R2. And as I don't have $400 to spend, sadly, there can be no collaboration.
Thanks to everyone else who submitted entries. Sme really talented designers here.
