    What's becoming clear is that the logo needs to encompass:

    a father and son together
    the breadth of the ride - 4,500 km across Australia

    I did initially think the sand, sea and desert need to be alluded to, but I now think too many elements spoil it a bit.

    * If you do a map of Australia please include the island of Tasmania (the triangle shaped island like on the ac2007 entry).
    * The ride is from west to east (left to right)
