Regarding design #1
the three squares are for when you said
"A 3 field form for visitors to use to search for financial products. The 3 fields will be 'loan amount', 'loan purpose' and 'home owner status' (see the sites below for examples forms)."
I will try my best to go further in the design later today if possible and re-submit it.

Regarding design #1
Thanks for the first submission. Links would be better at the bottom as they will be there more for google's benefit than for the users. The main focus of the page is to get the user to fill in the 3 field form and continue with the application process. Where were you planning on putting the form inside, one of the squares?
